When a Mere Dusting of Snow Coats Everything White

Winter has come early this year to the southwest, and although by now we’ve already had several snowstorms and wintry days this fall here in the high desert of New Mexico, today may have been the coldest and prettiest wintry day of the season yet, with temperatures hovering around 23 degrees (F) all day, and the insignificant dusting of snow crystallizing to everything it touched but the ground, resulting in a beautiful all-white landscape (apart from the frozen, mostly still red/brown ground).

Even the grass was white, and it was beautiful how the snow in some cases stuck only to one side of a surface, like it did on the yucca plant seen below.

Close up shots seemed to capture the unique beauty of this wintry day best…

Even the spiderwebs, and even those hanging under the roof were coated in white, a sight I have never seen before in my life!

The fences, too, had been coated white, a sight I hadn’t seen in quite a few years, that brought back memories of winter storms far crazier than this.

All I could think when I saw the unusual sight upon waking up this morning was that the scenery was awfully white for so little snow, and how utterly gorgeous a sight it made. It sure was cold, but at least now the views helped to make up for it…

It is on days like today that I am reminded I am living in the ‘Land of Enchantment’, and am grateful to wake up to the beauty of nature each and every day, especially on days like this.
