Pidlyska Hill. In search of endemic flowers (EN-UA)

I have already written in my blog about a wonderful place - Pidlyska hill not far from my village (Lviv region, Western Ukraine).
This place is unique in that it combines forest and steppe ecosystems. I once met scientists here looking for rare species of plants. This time I also decided to be a "botanist" and take pictures of some rare flowers that I once met there. My hike took place in early June, and I used to be there with a friend somewhere in mid-May, but didn't have enough time to take pictures.

So my journey begins through abandoned village gardens. How do you like this path? Looks like an illustration to a fantasy book;)

The first pleasant meeting is a glade with Aquilegia vulgaris. I like their deep purple color and the middle of the inflorescence, but it is lowered and it is not so easy to take a picture :)

IMG_20210607_145341-01.jpeg

Aquilegia vulgaris is beautiful decorative flower. Apparently it was once specially planted here.

There are several hiking trails to Podlyska Mountain. I'm going there alone for the first time, so it's a little scary. After all, sometimes I do not navigate in space and can get lost "between two trees". I choose the path through my favorite beech forest. It is cool and dark here as always.

Previously, I did not pay attention to the flowers that grow here, but now with each hike I notice something new. Here, for example, are such modest beauties: yellow Aposeris foetida and white Maianthemum bifolium.

Moss is a special, separate kingdom of plants that can adapt to harsh conditions and that closely resemble something fantastic.
There are mushrooms in the forest, though unfortunately not yet edible:(

IMG_20210612_183952-01.jpeg

IMG_20210622_223858.jpg

I pass an interesting arrow that shows an unknown place:) I need it in the opposite direction. The air in the forest is very fragrant, probably somewhere on the edge of the forest jasmine blooms. As soon as the pines begin to meet between the beeches, my mood rises. So, the Hill is close and I did not get lost!

And here is a white road (due to a large amount of chalk), here are tall pines on both sides. And here is a strong pine aroma, which heals the soul and body.

IMG_20210622_005016.jpg

IMG_20210608_002331.jpg

Pines "bloom", produce new shoots and everything around shimmers. Every year these pines are taller. My parents say that in their childhood the pines were small, and the mountain really was a bald ie without trees. This is its main name - Lysa (= bald) or Bila (White). It is said that people specially planted a hill with pines, and this had a bad effect on the ecosystem. There is a version that the Soviet authorities wanted to hide the high cross, which can be seen from the road.

My attention is drawn to the dog rose bushes, which are really very much here! It smells great and is liked not only by me but also by insects.

IMG_20210622_003235.jpg

And here is wonderful flower Salvia pratensis. And some stubbornly hide from my lens:)

CollageMaker_20210622_225200459.jpg

And here's a pleasant surprise: good people (probably employees of the Northern Podillya National Park:))) made a swing and a bench here. This is appropriate because I feel tired and even a little hungry!

IMG_20210607_174535-01.jpeg

IMG_20210608_001526.jpg

CollageMaker_20210622_193746493.jpg

My main goal is close, I want to go to the main glade on top of the hill, where rare flowers grow.
This metal cross on a stone foundation was built in 1911 in honor of the Ukrainian writer (as well as priest) Markiyan Shashkevych, who was born in the neighboring village of Pidlissia. Every year people honor his memory with a festive Liturgy in early August.

And this stand helps me to orient in flora and fauna of the territory. I can say like Socrates, "I know I know nothing." I think in the future to find many more plants here.

IMG_20210622_162001.jpg

Blue flowers: maybe Veronica prostrata. In the right: Viburnum opulus, Rosa canina with a bombus and Polygala vulgaris.

Arriving at the lawn, I realized that some flowers that interested me have already bloomed. Well, they didn't want to wait for me for two weeks:)
My conclusion: it is better to come here in the first half of May. Here are some shots from the previous hike!

IMG_20210621_235958.jpg

It's time to go home. I choose the field path, because in the evening it is the best option. Wheat is ripening around. My road goes between the field and the forest and I enjoy the evening coolness and interesting clouds in the distance. The sky was clear above Pidlyska Mountain, and somewhere above my house storm clouds are gathering ... But today there will be no rain. It will be tomorrow.
My next dream is to spend the night here with a tent to see everything around in the morning in a different light and mood. Now it remains to find a company :)
Thank you for your reading!

IMG_20210607_235217.jpg

Amazing view and beautiful photography mam🥰🥰😍

Thank you for your visit:)

Everything looks perfect. Those are awesome photos. Regards!

Thanks for your feedback!!

Your welcome. :)
