Nature continues to amaze me with the abundance of life and growth! But It is such a short period where we have this growht with less then a month before the longest day of the year then they start getting shorter again! but enough of that - let's enjoy while we've got it...
I will be visiting three different ponds in this post with the first capture of a small tranquil pond just up the road from our house.

to get there we travel down our lush treed lane - I love the freshness of the new leaves!

Along the side of the road the pincherries are now out in full bloom, looking like a good year for berries!

The Blossoms on the Saskatoon bushes were open too!

Also I noticed some wild current bushes in bloom in the bog area where there is a stunning display of marsh marigolds!

Here's a closer look at those currant blossoms...

In the wet bog area with the water levels up the marsh marigolds are found in abundance!
Have a look...

When we look in the other direction you will see more marsh marigolds in front of the well house. They were growing in all directs in the wet area and it wasn't that long ago you couldn't find one! Nature is amazing how it keeps the seeds viable during the dry years then with the changes comes a succession of plants. There is a lot of wild mint growing in this area too but it isn't in bloom until later in the season.

JJ came to inspect the marsh marigolds but had to be careful where he stepped for they grow in the wet areas!

He was curious about the tree with all the woodpecker holes in it so he had to check that out too!

The butterflies are plentiful right now especially by the maple tree which the sapsucker had drilled holes in releasing some sap. This is a great food source for the insects.

We stopped at the lake which is at the end of main street in town and found the terns flitting about which meant things were up at the surface. It was fun to watch them!
Terns Flitting Around Surface of Water
There was one bird that looked like it was standing on the water but there must have been a dead head (a dead fallen tree that is lodged in bottom of lake with the tip near the surface.) This may had been why there were so many terns around for things would gather around it making feed for them.

The next pond we visited was on the way home from town where a male mallard had been grooming himself then gave a big stretch of his wings showing the markings.

I had found a flock of geese, mostly the white front geese (or speckle belly geese as they are sometimes called) with a few Canada geese. They were resting on what was more of a mud puddle than a pond. They rested there for awhile then wattled off into the field to eat.

I took dozens of photos of them and I was surprised they were still in flocks. I researched a bit and found they breed in the tundra and they migrate there in late May or early June so they were still on their way to their breeding grounds.
That's all I have for now but every day is a photo adventure day here in the Boreal forest of Saskatchewan bringing lots of photo delights!

I learned to know about your area during the deep winters. Now I can see it in a another season. It looks still familiar, but also very different with all the flowers and animals around that were hidden during the colder period. I am already exited about all your next entries ^^
I'm so happy to have a place to share my nature photography - thanks for setting this up!
I am so enthused about the beauty that surrounds me and every day is a photo adventure day here in the Boreal Forest of Saskatchewan!
