Last week, our Environmental Clubs dedicated their activities to Waste Management. Utilizing the Grades of Green Community/Beach Cleanup Launch Toolkit, we successfully mobilized and organized a school clean-up campaign after enlightening the students about waste, its detrimental effects when improperly disposed, and the proper methods of waste sorting, management, and disposal.
At GBHS Bamendakwe on Wednesday, Nsangou Rudolf, the Environmental Club Coordinator effectively educated and engaged 15 students in picking up litter around the school campus. Following the cleanup, the students diligently sorted the waste—disposing of biodegradables in the school farm, saving plastic bottles for recycling, and placing other non-biodegradables in designated bins for proper disposal by school authorities. The students also identified high-density waste spots in the school, such as around the canteen, recommending the installation of more bins in those areas.
On Friday, Nchine Lovette Andiensa, led activities at CAMSCI Primary School, working with 64 pupils who learned about waste management and participated in a school cleanup. Post-cleanup, the pupils created a visually striking art piece titled "THROW ALL DIRTS INTO THE TRASH CAN” to serve as an educational tool for encouraging their peers to dispose of trash in the bin.
On Saturday, Nchine Lovette Andiensa stood in for Petiuh Frederick Tandah and educated and engaged 188 students on the same subject. This expansive session concluded with impressive art results, as students expressed their creativity by drawing various perspectives on waste management and maintaining a clean environment free from litter.
Unfortunately, Prosper, in charge of EDUCARE Green Club, couldn't conduct club activities due to exam preparation at their school. Similarly, abousou fombah robert of CCAS Green Club was unavailable as he defended his Master, and Blerc of GPS Alahlie had to skip activities for personal reasons.
In the upcoming weeks, we plan to organize a Waste Management Art Contest, providing art supplies for all students and pupils to create colorful artworks. These will be utilized to raise awareness and inspire action. Additionally, we will conduct a Waste Audit and Adopt-A-Spot initiative.
In line with our commitment to environmental sustainability, we will dig compost pits for biodegradables in all schools and donate more waste baskets.
This week, we will continue our school cleanup and the aforementioned activities.
