Handmade Felt Toys for Traveling - Needle Work Monday

in NeedleWorkMonday10 months ago

Next week we are taking a trip to the US. A few years ago, I made a little toy for a friend who also took a trip on a plane. It was cute and not too hard, so when my daughter asked me to make her one the other day, I figured I could make a few - one for each of my kids and one for the two friends traveling with us!

I generally check Pinterest for ideas. This time, my girlie thought her friend would like a dog, so I came up with a plan.

First step, choose the color felt and cut out the body shape. I want them to fit in a small tin, so they are rather small toys.

.

Cut out two pieces exactly alike. Then I start sewing on the face.

.

I start sewing all the way around the toy with matching thread. The ears were tricky, but I figured them out!

.

After getting almost all the way to the end, stop and stuff some stuffing inside. Stitch it all the way closed and the toy is finished. Now, it's time to add accessories!

.

For this one, I decided to add a little bone, blanket, and pillow. She fits so nicely in her little tin box!

.

She ended up with a little "friend" stuffed cat. The cat matches the little toy I made for my daughter, so she and her friend can have toys just like each other - little friends! I also made a little water bowl and a ball for a toy.

I know the girls are just going to love their toys. I haven't let them see them yet so it will be a fun surprise at the start of the trip!

Here is what I have ended up with so far - a pink bunny with a kitty friend, a pink dog with a purple kitty friend, and a purple kitty with a pink dog friend! They're a lot of fun to make! Can't wait to see the girls playing with them.

These are the cutest! So creative! I love how small they are and that they each come with their own tin box. You just may be on to something. I hope you’re ready for requests because these are so adorable! I love them all! 😍

I’m sure the girls will have a blast with their new stuffed pets.

The boys also wanted one, so I've made a snake and owl so far. The older boys will get tin toys as well, but they'll have magnetic tic-tac-toe and some dice in them with some games to play with those. One of my older sons already started making up a game for himself to play that fits in one as well. Ha! The creativity that comes with finding some tin boxes at the amazon returns store. I may have to order some more from amazon. ;) I found some on etsy for $29 for a pretty simple one. 😮

Love it! That is so cool that the boys will have some too. I’m taking note for when we travel. I know my two littles would love something like this too.

Oh yea, discount prices are the best ~ ✅

What cute toys, the children must like them a lot since they are quite colorful and they look fun, I like the little boxes where I keep them, and that cute kitty 😻, thanks for sharing, happy start to the week 😊

Yes, I even want to make one for myself. Ha! I like that they are small and can fit in a pocket if necessary! Have a great week!
