Crochet Santa's boots with me for my Nephew's first Christmas

in NeedleWorkMonday13 days ago (edited)

Hi needleworkers, longtime no crochet. So, this is a last-minute post for the needlework Christmas contest. I had a lot of ideas because it's my nephew's first Christmas and I have had the mind to handmake something lovely for him.

So, it made this contest some sort of motivation for me to carry on with my plans. Sadly, my time was limited but fortunately, my girl @abenad is always there to keep me on my toes. But then at a point I told her that I couldn't do it. I had made up my mind till my sister called that she will be coming with the boys tomorrow. The speed at which I got this done? It was even more swift because we had electricity. Indeed there is this sort of physical strength and mental boost that comes with electricity.

Interestingly, I had wanted to crochet a Christmas theme baby beanie but then I saw these lovely boots and I fell in love with it. Then I went, why not make it as Santa boots instead? because I mean, it will certainly look good on my nephew plus this will also be like his first footwear for his first Christmas outing.

We got a lot planned for the holiday and these boots will just blend in perfectly for him. Crocheting this boot was quite enjoyable too, it took me roughly 8 hours to get these baby done and I cant wait to see it on my nephew's feet tomorrow.

Once he puts it on, would make a video for his future self telling him that it was made with love from his sweet Aunty.

Now let's dive into the tutorial and the material used (For the definition of terms used, kindly scroll to the end).

Materials
Yarn
4.0 mm crochet hook
Crochet needle

Kindly note that this tutorial is for BABIES, 3-6 MONTHS and we shall be working with the sole first before progressing to the body

SOLE

Step one: Ch 11

Step two: Skip 3 ch, then make 1dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Please note that the skipped 3 chs do not count as a st. For the remaining chains, make 1dc in the next 6 chs and then 8dc in the last ch. Working up on the other side of the ch, for the next 6 ch, make 1dc and then 7dc in the last ch. sl st to 1st dc to join. When you count your stitches, you should have 28 sts.

Step three: Ch3 (this does not count as a st for the crochet work), then make 2dc in the same st. After which, make 1dc in the next 6 sts, 2dc in the next 8 sts, 1dc in the next 6 sts, 2dc in the next 7 sts and sl st to 1st dc to join. For this round, we should have 44 sts.

MID SECTION

Step four: Ch3, then make BLdc in the same st. After which, make BLdc in the next 43 sts. Finally, sl st to 1st BLdc to join, we should have another 44st

SHAPE THE TOE

Step five: Ch1 (again, please note that this does not count as a st for this crochet project), in the same stitch, make 1sc. For the next 7stitches make 1sc sts, then dc2tog 8 times. In the next 20 sts make 1 sc and then a sl st to the 1st sc to join. For this round, we should have 36 sts.

Step six. Ch1, then add 1sc in the same st. In the next 7 sts, make 1sc and then dc2tog 4 times. In the next 20 sts, make 1sc then sl st to 1st sc to join. This round should give us 32 sts.

Step seven. Ch1, then add 1sc in the same st. In the next 7 sts, make 1sc then do dc2tog twice. For the next 20 sts, make 1 sc each. At the end, sl st to 1st sc to join. We should have 30 sts in this round.

Step 8. Ch1 and include 1sc in the same st, then make 1sc in the next 7 sts and then do dc2tog once. Make 1sc in next 20 sts and at the end, sl st to 1st sc to join. We should have 29 sts

UPPER SECTION

Step nine. Ch1, include 1sc in the same st and then 1sc in the next 28 sts. At the end, sl st to first sc to join and we should have 29 sts when done.

Step ten–eighteen: Repeat round nine.

Cut yarn, fasten it off with your crochet hook to weave in ends.

Fold your baby bootie over to create a little cuff.

FOR THE BELT AND BUCKLE

  1. Chain to the desired size that will go round the ankle of the boot.

  2. Make a sc till the end of the chain.

  3. Tack the belt to the ankle of the boot with needle and thread.

The same procedure for the buckle but with lesser chains. Round it on the front of the tacked belt and also tack. Couldn't get a picture of that as I was hurrying up to beat time.
