A month and a half ago, a friend in a WhatsApp group announced that an institution would be offering a sewing course. It would last 3 months, 5 days a week, and if you didn’t miss a single class, they would give you a basic food basket at the end of the month.
I already have a sewing machine but don’t know how to make patterns. Plus, the work I do now doesn’t bring in as much as I’d like to help out at home, so the offer was really tempting for me 😁.
However, I didn’t show up on the enrollment day. Due to major changes, my schedule, routine, and availability were no longer the same.
Two days later, plans changed again, and I reconsidered taking the course. I thought they’d be out of spots by then, but I went anyway, and to my surprise, I could still enroll 🥳🥳🥳.
The teacher explained to me that it wouldn’t be a tailoring course like I wanted, but rather a course on making sports shirts. The different pieces—sleeves, collar, front, and back—were already cut, and the task was just to sew them together on the machine.
I was like 😶. I didn’t know if I should continue since it wasn’t what I was looking for, and on top of that, getting to the location required bus fare expenses, so I had to think about what to do. In the end, I decided to give the course a chance. There are three of us in the course; the environment is calm, and the machines are automatic.
Last week, I managed to sew six shirts in two hours. I’m learning!
I want to find a job sewing shirts, and little by little, I’ll do what’s necessary to make that happen. Meanwhile, I’ll keep attending the course. Oh, and about that food basket I was hoping to help out at home with—they haven’t said a word about it yet in the course. I’ll wait until the end of the month 😂😂.
