Clare’s Kitchen – or dyeing fabric with pomegranates.

How many seeds can you count in one pomegranate?

I have no idea.

But it must be nearly as many as there are ideas sprouting around Clare’s kitchen table.

Since one week we sit around that table, harvesting as many ideas as we can catch. Some times we pick ripe ones, others need to be left on the tree for a little while longer. Surely there are too many to be carried on with in one day nor one week.

And what do you do if you have too many ideas, too much inspiration and too much to talk about?

You just start somewhere.

For example with the idea to dye fabric with pomegranates.

Harvested a few days back by Clare, the fruits where sitting in a pot on one corner of the kitchen.

Meant to be pressed into juice.

While I sit on the kitchen table and peel one fruit after the other…

...Clare is pressing the juice.

How is it that every detail bares so much beauty in this process?

The peels of the fruit.

The seeds and their flesh.

The red juice dyeing the Tablecloth red and purple.

The squished grains.

The mix of leftovers.

A successful bottle of pomegranate juice later...

...the leftovers wander from a bowl on the table into a pot on the fire.

The whole night they sit there, covered in water, simmering along while we are already brewing the next project in our minds and conversations.

Next day is about separating the pieces from the liquid.

Figuring out what garment or which type of fabric we should dye.

Linen? Cashmere? Cotton?

Cotton wins and has to brew on the fire for another night.

Until we pull out a bright coloured yellow dress the next morning.

Looking at it from each side, holding it into the sunlight we discuss over the many shades of yellow.

“Next time we have to try without the skin!” we agree, as we get into the sewing room. Where in the meantime we were working on another project.

Each of us stitching over our pieces of fabric. Breaking the silence from time to time.
“You know what we could try tomorrow….?”

But it must be as many as there are seeds in a pomegranate.

Thank you for passing by again! Have a lovely Monday!

All words and photos are my own, written and taken by me, and inspired by @clareartista and her beautiful house and kitchen.

Oh how wonderful! You finally made it to your needleworkmonday-friend claire? That's fantastic:-)
Really great! What an adventure!

Wow! I learnt something new today, so clothes can be dyed using pomegranate, interesting, I was hoping to see a red coloured dyed cloth but ended up seeing yellow😂 that was unexpected, lol, still the resulting colour is beautiful.

...I guess we kind of expected red too😂 But since we used all the juice for drinking we decided to try dyeing only with the scraps. Maybe we'll get some more fruits and try the red part this time!😊
Thank you for your lovely comment💜

I have many fruits item. For long time I want to processing them to coloring fabric. But still.... I still afraid of doing that 😅

Thank you for this post. I got new inspiration what I gonna do with those things such as avocado seed and more 🙂

Oooh, yes try it out!!😊😍
I guess the only thing that can go wrong is that your kitchen might be a bit of a mess... 😁
Lovely to hear from you!!💜

Haha! Probably :<)

Amazing pictures and storytelling. I can feel the good vibes all the way over here.
I actually really like the way that dyed dress looks. How did it smell? ;<)

Sending a hug to both of you ✨

I haven't smelled the dress yet..😁 (I'll try for you)
...but the kitchen smelled of pomegranates all the way!
💛

(I'll try for you)

Please do :<)

I can only imagine how that must have felt ( and smelt )✨ ❤️

The dress doesn't smell of pomegranates anymore...
..rather like Italian countryside air😁

Not the worst smell either ;<)

If my clothes would smell like pomegranate, I would probably take sniffs from them very often, with eye witnesses wondering when I last showered ;<)

Thanks for the idea, I have several around here, I'm going to dare to paint some white shirts! greetings!

That's exciting to hear!!😁 You'll share the results with us? Would love to see how the painting will turn out!

I have never thought that clothes could be dyed using pomegranate, wow, I am glad I stumbled on this informative and creative post ma'am.

It came out looking classy.

Thank you!!😊
You have to make sure it is 100% natural fibres though, such as cotton or linen (they work the best, as far as I know)

Okay ma'am, thank you for sharing.

That was nice, it is 2 in 1 used. You have a juice plus you got dyed a cloth..what a brilliant idea🤗

😁 Indeed!!
Thank you🌸

This is divine! A gazillion ideas and this one turned out lush ❤

Thank you😊🌸 ...we'll see how all the others turn out!

Wow! This seems like a magical experience!!

Indeed!! Filled with beauty:)

Slow fashion! Sounds great and the dyeing process is quite satisfying I wish to see some videos soon. Do post on YouTube and link it here if you can in the future. 😁✨

Thank you😊 ...for sure videos of the process could be interesting too!
