Happy Monday, NeedleWork Monday friends! How are you all doing? I hope this week is treating you wonderfully. Over here, the week is starting with lots of energy and activity, which keeps me happy and energized. I can finally get my days back in order by keeping up with lots of different activities, which, as you know, I really enjoy, but also by having various commitments during the week, which prevents stress from attacking or surprising me with changes of plans. This time, everything is planned!

Buen lunes, amigas de NeedleWork Monday, ¿Cómo se encuentran? Espero que esta semana las reciba de maravilla, por este rincón del mundo se comienza una semana con mucha energía y mucha actividad, asique eso me mantiene contenta, y con mucha energía. Finalmente puedo volver a poner orden a mis días manteniendo muchas actividades variadas, como ya saben que disfruto muchísimo, pero también tener compromisos diversos durante la semana y le quito posibilidad al estrés de atacar o de sorprenderme con cambios de planes, ¡esta vez está todo planeado!
Let's get started, because this year the idea is to add musical appliqués that are very distinctive of my country, so I started with some that I thought were essential. In fact, many years ago I had one that I made myself, from the same band, but I gave it away. And now that I feel like I'm doing better things, or with greater professionalism, I decided to embroider this band logo. It's an eye between two cannabis leaves, with a tired, red eyelid, so the color combination had to be very specific.

Vamos a comenzar, porque este año la idea es poner apliques musicales y bien distintivos de mi país, y por eso comencé con algunos que me parecían infaltables. De hecho, hace muchos años tuve uno también hecho por mi, de la misma banda, pero lo regalé. Y ahora que siento que estoy haciendo mejores cosas, o con mayor profesionalismo, decidí bordar este logo de la banda. Es un ojo entre dos hojas de cannabis, con el párpado cansado y rojo, por eso iba a ser muy específica la combinación de colores.

At the same time, green is a basic color, so shades and highlights were also easy to choose. Everything fell into place once I started with the edges, understanding that it's like preparing the ground where we then fill in with the right color. But I don't want to forget to mention that I used an old backing (fabric, paper, and tape) that had a design I didn't feel like embroidering. I made a very similar one. The idea was to make two, but I felt that it didn't look as good as I wanted it to, and I didn't like making another one with the same logic, nor did I like making it different. So I took advantage of the backing and drew on top of it! Everything is recycled here.

Y al mismo tiempo, el color verde es básico, por lo que sombras y luces fueron también simples de elegir. Todo tomó sentido una vez que comencé con los bordes, entendiendo que es como dejar listo el terreno donde luego rellenamos con el color indicado. Pero no quiero dejar de contarles que utilicé un viejo soporte (tela, papel y cinta) que tenía un dibujo que no me apetecía bordar. Realicé uno muy similar, la idea era hacer dos, pero me pareció que no se lució como yo quería, y hacer otro con la misma lógica no me gustaba, y hacerlo distinto tampoco. Asique aproveché el soporte y dibujé encima! Aquí todo se recicla.
As I continued and finished all the edges, I ventured into the tabs. Although some small parts were changed for convenience or simplicity, I achieved my goal. I thought it would turn out much more layered and rough. When I started with greens, the decision was arbitrary, and then I changed it and then modified everything again. In the end, since they resemble leaves, they didn't have to be even or the same, but I got carried away by some tones in the drawing and tried to place some lighter lines and some darker ones.

Cuando fui continuando y terminé todos los bordes, me aventuré con las pestañas. Si bien algunas pequeñas partes fueron cambiadas por comodidad o simpleza, logré el objetivo. Pensé que resultaría todo mucho más encimado y tosco. Al momento de comenzar con verdes, la decisión fue arbitraria, y luego la cambié y luego volví a modificar todo. Al final, como asemejan hojas, no tenían que estar parejas o iguales, pero me dejé llevar por algunos tonos en el dibujo y traté de colocar algunas líneas más claras y otras más oscuras.
Although I didn't dislike the final result, guessing the shadows and highlights on the leaves made me very nervous. I'm always ahead of myself in my mind, thinking that the result will be surprisingly negative. Spoiler alert: it never happens. I always end up delighted. So I'll start to recognize it as a good sign every time I feel like something isn't going well, haha.

Aunque el resultado final no me desagradó, todo lo que fue adivinar sombras y luces en las hojas me puso muy nerviosa. Siempre ando adelantada en mi mente, pensando que el resultado será sorpresivamente negativo. Spoiler, nunca ocurre. Siempre termino encantada. Asique empezaré a reconocer como buen indicio cada vez que sienta que algo no sale bien, jaja.
It should be noted that although it's not extraordinarily large, the leaves took me the longest. From the color decisions to the extent of the work. I started in one place, continued in another, filled in, changed threads, everything that came up was decided as I went along, as if to speed up the idea and make it seem like it wasn't taking so long, but it did take me a decent amount of time.

Cabe destacar que aunque tampoco es que sea de dimensiones extraordinarias, las hojas fueron las que más tiempo me llevó. Desde las decisiones de colores, hasta lo extenso. Comencé por un sitio, continué por otro, rellené, hice cambios de hilo, todo lo que se va presentando fue decidido a la hora de continuar, como para acelerar la idea y que no parezca tardar tanto, pero sí me tomó un digno tiempo.
All that was left was to finish the eye, and here the decision was different. It had to be understandable and respect the colors, but without forgetting that it had to shine and have a certain charm. The eyelid was difficult because I didn't have the right shade, so I had to search through many beads to find a somewhat opaque and dark red. It didn't take me long, just like the brown ones. I couldn't help wondering when I was going to use these colors, and now that I'm starting to do work that may have minimal details in these shades, I feel determined to be able to finish them without despairing of going out to buy new colors that fit perfectly.

Solo me quedaba por terminar el ojo, y aquí la decisión era otra. Que se comprenda y que respete los colores, pero sin olvidar que debe brillar y tener cierto encanto. El parpado fue difícil ya que el tono no es algo que tenía, sino que hubo que buscar entre muchas mostacillas para que un rojo algo opaco y oscuro apareciera. No me llevó mucho tiempo, igual que las de color marrón. No pude evitar preguntarme cuándo iba a utilizar estos colores, y ahora que empiezo a hacer trabajos que quizás tienen mínimos detalles en estos tonos, me siento resuelta de poder concluirlos sin desesperar por ir a comprar nuevos colores que encajen perfectos.
Once I had all this ready, bead by bead, thread and knot by knot, I finished with the classic sequin border to make it stand out on the costume and also leave space to sew without damaging the design. I hope you liked it. I haven't decided yet if this appliqué will go on my costume, or where I will use it, but that's a decision for later. For now, everything is going smoothly, creating and continuing with the 11-month process until the next carnival.

Una vez tuve todo esto avanzado, mostacilla por mostacilla, hilo y nudo por nudo, terminé con el borde clásico en lentejuelas para que destaque sobre el traje y así también dejar espacio para coser sin dañar el diseño. Espero que les haya gustado, aún no decido si este aplique irá a mi traje, ni en qué sector lo usaré, pero es una decisión para más adelante, por ahora todo va sobre ruedas, creando y continuando con el proceso de 11 meses hasta el próximo carnaval.
