Trying out something different, diy of a traditional outfit

Hello Family

It’s weekend already and even though I feel like screaming thank God it’s Friday it seems like this excitement is for only those who work 9-5jobs and have the weekends for rest.
My own weekend usually very busy, characterized by highly engaging farm work.

While I have started preparations for the farm work we got more cassava that we will be planting in the farm tomorrow, my elder sister came along with this traditional outfit for me to sew for her.

I kinda dislike making traditional wear, they are usually so complicated and stressful more than a usual fabrics I sew. You have to follow a lot of processes and that made me hate making traditional wears.

My sis knows very well that I dislike making such outfits but she insisted and beg me to help her out with this. She has earlier taking it to a tailor to help her sew the dress but she was asked to pay a good sum of money to make this. Due to inflation everywhere even tailors increased the amount they charge for making peoples clothes.

It feel bitter to know that even $4 cannot sew ones outfit anymore. Understanding my sisters plight as she needs this dress for an upcoming occasion I decided to try something new for her.

It’s a new kind of design I got inspired to make after streaming the internet, although this is a traditional wear I decided to try some simple embellishment with bias that can make the outfit stand out.

I took her measurements and cut a straight dress here

Next I had cut the facing I will be using to turn the necklines

Then I purchased some satin on sky blue color and this 1” bias. In fact everything I bought to make the dress didn't cost more than $2.

Then the most difficult part of how to arrange the design of what I want on the satin. One can decide to chose different arrangement based on creativity.

That was done before I pinned it to the front of the dress and sewed it.

This whole process took a lot of time as I did some ironing and adding interfacing to keep the necklines down and in place while sewing. If the bias shifts from its position it will disrupt this design that I have made and since everything was a bit slippery I have to work diligently in order to get the quality results I desire.

Having made this so far I am a bit short on the inspiration of what to sew as the sleeves. My sister likes her dress so far and couldn’t hide her contentment on how I have saved her the expenses of making the dress.

I do have a lot of farm work preparation to do today starting from cutting the cassava stems we will be taking to farm, hence while I engage in farm work I hope that some sleeve inspiration will pop up as well.
At least a larger part of the outfit is done.

I feel excited to have sewn this even though it wasn’t convenient at all, but I got a chance to learn something new creatively working with bias on traditional outfits.

Thanks dear...

You’re welcome

friend you really do magic and with so many things you do, your sister is very lucky to have a good sister to help her, although you don't like to make these traditional dresses you helped to improve your sister's dress which is looking great just waiting for the design of the sleeves, while you think of some inspiration during the planting of cassava, you are very productive I congratulate you.💪❤️
