How I Made a Macramé Banana Hanger

in NeedleWorkMonday8 days ago (edited)

I've always had an issue with how I store my bananas; mixing them with other fruits makes the other fruits ripen and spoil quickly. Bananas release ethylene gas, a natural plant hormone that triggers the ripening process. So it’s best to store them separately.

So after shopping earlier this evening, I decided to make a banana hanger.

I thought some wood would be nice, so I visited the nearby woodland and chose which wood would suit my little project.

I found a nice silvery, glossy wood from a hazelnut tree.

So in here I only need a 3mm cord, scissors, and my wood.

I had no plan for a design or pattern at hand, so I made this up and just went with the flow.

I first cut 2x 3-meter macramé cords.

I attached using lark's knot.

I made a berry knot: 8 square knots, and I flipped it over.

Then a few square knots apart.

Berry knots: This will hold the banana in place.

Then, half square knots for a different swirly design.

Then finished with another berry knot.

Cut the ends.

I knotted a sling at both ends of the wood.

Then, instead of cutting the excess cord, I made a few hitch knots near the base of the cord and paired it on the other side.

Then I twisted the cord a bit and did a gathering knot to strengthen the cord.

I hung it.

This was made pretty fast and fun.

And most of all, I now have a banana holder in my own style.

It is sturdy, and the berry knots seemed to hold the bunch of bananas well in place.

Have a lovely day,
Mariah 😊🍌💗

Oh I didn't know bananas released that gas... I have a small "tower" for fruits with 3 floors and keep them on one

But how do you do when there is only 1 banana left? 🤣

Here's the answer Sir David! 🤣
