Even when life gets busy, I love finding time for my stitching. It encourages me to slow down, stay still, and focus on the details—especially with micro crochet, which requires a lot of coordination and attention. Even the simplest crochet pattern becomes a major task, but the result is always an intricate and delicate piece.
This morning, as I opened the door, a fresh spring breeze greeted me. The sight of new leaves sprouting and flowers blooming inspired me to create something that embodies spring—a milk cover. The idea came to me when I visited an older neighbour who made me a lovely cup of tea. I noticed that her milk was covered with an intricate, delicate lace pattern with beads along the edges, and I found it fascinating. Apparently, these covers were commonly used in the past when fresh milk was left out to cool or settle. Today, they are still cherished for their vintage charm in rustic and cottage-style homes.
I'm pleased to show you how I made this today,
I used a smaller hook and sewing threads in Easter colors:
🌸 Pink for cherry blossoms
🌼 Yellow for daffodils
💜 Lilac for lavender
🌿 Mint green for fresh leaves
☁️ Blue for the sky
🌥 White for pure light
☀️ Yellow-orange for the sun
Materials:
Cotton thread (Size 20 or 30) in 7 colours
0.6 mm steel crochet hook
Beads (optional, for weight)
Scissors & needle
Round 1 Soft Pink🌸
Start with a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as first dc), work 11 dc into the ring.
Pull the ring tight and sl st into the first dc. (12 dc total)
Change to Pale Yellow 🌼
Round 2
Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, ch 1.
(2 dc in next stitch, ch 1) repeat around.
Sl st to top of starting ch-3. (12 clusters, 12 ch-1 spaces)
Change to Lilac 💜
Round 3
Sl st into the next ch-1 space. Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same space.
(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-1 space) repeat around.
Sl st to top of ch-3. (12 shells, 12 ch-2 spaces)
Change to Mint Green🍃
Round 4
Sl st to the next ch-2 space. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 4 dc in the same space.
(5 dc in next ch-2 space) repeat around.
Sl st to top of ch-3. (12 fan clusters of 5 dc each)
Change to Sky Blue ☁️
Round 5
Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc.
(Ch 5, sc in middle dc of next fan cluster) repeat around.
Sl st to first sc. (12 ch-4 loops)
Change to White 🤍
Round 6 and 7
Sl st into first ch-4 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 6
(sc in next ch-4 space)
Increase to Ch 7 for R7.
Sl st to first sc.
Change to Yellow🌞
Sl st into first ch-4 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 8
(sc in next ch-4 space)
Increase to Ch 9 for R7.
Sl st to first sc.
Change to Orange ☀️
Round 8
Sl st into first ch-4 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 10
(sc in next ch-4 space) Repeat around.
Round 9
Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 6, sc in the middle of the next loop, ch 6, sc in between the loops.
Round 10 ☀️
Change to Light yellow
Repeat around: (Ch 7, sc in the middle of the next loop)
Round 11
Into each ch-10 loop, work:
2 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc (scallop).
Repeat around. Sl st to first sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
I added freshwater pearls to weigh down the edges.
I am pleased with the result.
This spring-themed milk cover looks like a blooming flower on my table! 🌷✨ 😊
