"Días de Playa", una serie de pinturas en acuarela || "Beach days", a series of watercolor paintings [ESP/ENG]

Soy una amante empedernida del mar, amante de escuchar el romper de las olas, del aroma del agua salada, de la serenidad que me brinda y de la inspiración que me da. Cada vez que puedo ir a la playa disfruto cada segundo, y últimamente he aprovechado esos momentos para dedicarme a pintar con mis acuarelas.

I am an inveterate lover of the sea, a lover of listening to the crashing of the waves, the scent of salt water, the serenity it gives me and the inspiration it gives me. Whenever I can go to the beach I enjoy every second, and lately I have taken advantage of those moments to dedicate myself to painting with my watercolors.

Comencé a pintar una serie de cuadros que nombré Días de playa, ya que sólo tomaría en cuenta para la serie las acuarelas que pintara de la playa hechas en la playa.

I began to paint a series of paintings that I named Beach days, since I would only take into account for the series the watercolors I painted of the beach made on the beach.

Me dispuse a hacer una serie de cuatro acuarelas, y para mi última acuarela decidí pintar un par de huellas en la orilla del mar. Tomé mis materiales, mi estuche de scuarelas, un pincel plano, y media hoja tamaño carta de papel ahuesado, y comencé a pintar.

I set out to do a series of four watercolors, and for my last watercolor I decided to paint a pair of footprints on the seashore. I grabbed my materials, my watercolor case, a flat brush, and a half sheet of letter sized, corrugated paper, and began to paint.

Con pinceladas suaves, pinté con azul la mitad superior del papel, hacia arriba el pigmento más puro y hacia abajo con menos pigmento; dejando una separación de los bordes. Repetí el proceso con la mitad inferior, pero esta vez con color tierra, y pigmentando más la parte inferior. Como este tipo de papel no es para acuarelas porque no retiene tanta agua, tuve que dejar secar muy bien el papel para pintar un par de huellas con el mismo pigmento de la arena un poco más puro, para dar la impresión de que las huellas están húmedas. También hice otros detalles como ramas secas, conchas de mar y granitos de arena más oscuros.

With soft brushstrokes, I painted the upper half of the paper with blue, upwards with the purest pigment and downwards with less pigment; leaving a separation of the edges. I repeated the process with the lower half, but this time with earth color, and pigmenting more the lower part. As this type of paper is not for watercolors because it does not retain as much water, I had to let the paper dry very well to paint a couple of footprints with the same pigment of the sand a little more pure, to give the impression that the footprints are wet. I also made other details such as dry branches, sea shells and darker grains of sand.

Aprovechando los recursos de la misma playa, utilicé arena junto con acuarela blanca para pintar la espuma del mar en la orilla, y esperé a que secara muy bien para sacudir la arena y se pudiera ver el afecto deseado.

Taking advantage of the resources of the beach itself, I used sand along with white watercolor to paint the sea foam on the shore, and waited for it to dry very well to shake the sand and the desired effect could be seen.

Ya en casa, con un marcador ultra fino de color negro, resalté los bordes y las zonas de sombra en el dibujo, con líneas finas y otrs más acentuadas, dependiendo de la intensidad que quería darle a cada elemento del dibujo. Lo firmé y así quedó terminado.

Once at home, with an ultra fine black marker, I highlighted the edges and shadow areas in the drawing, with thin lines and other more accentuated ones, depending on the intensity I wanted to give to each element of the drawing. I signed it and that's how it was finished.

Y ya con las cuatro acuarelas de la serie, me puse manos a la obra para enmarcarlas. Las coloqué sobre un cartón resistente y medí y tracé las líneas por donde habría de cortar el cartón, y luego de haberlo cortado, pegué con cilicón cada una de las acuarelas en él.

And now that I had the four watercolors of the series, I set to work to frame them. I placed them on a sturdy cardboard and measured and traced the lines where I would cut the cardboard, and after I cut it, I glued each of the watercolors on it.

Como ya mencioné antes, me encanta el mar y disfruto muchísimo recolectando caracoles y conchas de mar que consigo a orillas de la playa; así que para decorar el cartón, pegué por todos los bordes del cuadro suficientes conchas de mar de diferentes formas y tamaños que tenía recolectadas desde hace tiempo. De esta manera la serie Días de playa quedó completamente finalizada.

As I mentioned before, I love the sea and I really enjoy collecting seashells and sea shells that I get from the beach; so to decorate the cardboard, I glued all around the edges of the picture enough seashells of different shapes and sizes that I had collected for a long time. In this way the Beach Days series was completely finished.

Realmente me gustó mucho hacer este trabajo, amé el estilo que le aportó el borde lleno de conchas de mar y cómo luce la composición en general. Esta serie se la regalé a mi mamá, por lo que ahora quiero hacer una nueva para mí.

I really enjoyed doing this work, I loved the style that the seashell border added and how the overall composition looks. I gave this series to my mom as a gift, so now I want to make a new one for myself.
