DIY BABY GROOT KEYCHAIN CARVED IN WOOD [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are feeling very well today I want to share with you a keychain that I made carved out of wood, I think that wood has never been better used in a character, and I have made the tender Baby Groot, who appeared for the first time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, now he is older, but I still remember his entrance on the scene with a dance while the rest of the team was beaten up, from there it stayed in my mind to draw it and now I was able to do it carved in wood, at least his head. Here I show you step by step how I did it, I hope you like it.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un llavero que hice tallado en madera, creo que nunca la madera me quedó mejor utilizada en un personaje, y es que he realizado al tierno Baby Groot, que apareció por primera vez en Guardianes de la Galaxia Vol 2, ya ahora esta más crecido, pero aún recuerdo su entrada en escena con un baile mientras al resto del equipo les daban una buena paliza, desde ahí se me quedó en la mente para dibujarlo y ahora lo pude hacer tallado en madera, al menos su cabeza. Aquí les muestro paso a paso como lo hice, espero que les guste.

PROCESS

I used scraps of wood for picture frames. This wood is very soft, easy to cut and I also wouldn't need much, I just cut a piece of wood about 5 centimeters, which after sanding it to make it very smooth I made the drawing of the Baby Groot's face with a pencil, and from the drawing make the entire figure of his head.

Utilicé un retazo de madera para marcos de cuadro esta madera es muy suave, fácil de cortar y además no iba a necesitar mucho, solamente corte un pedazo de madera de unos 5 centímetros, a la cual luego de lijarla para dejarla muy lisa hice el dibujo del rostro de Baby Groot con un lápiz, y a partir de dibujo hacer toda la figura de su cabeza.

With the knife I began to shape it by first cutting the sides, which was completely easy and simple thanks to the properties of the wood, however the upper part of the head did cost me a little more work, since it is apart. It is as if it had broken, since Groot is just a branch.

Con la navaja comence a darle forma cortando en primer lugar por los costados, que fue completamente fácil y sencillo gracias a las propiedades de la madera, en cambio la parte superior de la cabeza si me costó un poco más de trabajo, ya que esta aprte es como si se hubiera partido, ya que Groot es apena suna rama.

In the same way that I began to shape the head on the sides, I also began to give it a circular shape on the bottom, leaving a space to serve as a base. In the same way, in the upper part I was removing wood since then it was time to sculpt the face, especially the eyes which need a higher degree of precision.

De la misma forma que comencé a darle forma a la cabeza por los costados tambien comencé a darle forma circular por la parte inferior, dejando un espacio que sirva como base. De la misma forma en la parte superior fui retirando madera ya que luego toca esculpir el rostro, especialmente los ojos los cuales necesitan un grado más de precisión.

With a smaller knife I begin to carve the eyes, which are somewhat round and also have eyelids, these are very small so I made some very small lines and then I carefully removed the wood, I did this around the circle. This way I also gave a superior shape to the eye part and that helps baby Groot's face have an expression.

Con una navaja más pequeña comienzo a tallar los ojos, los cuales son algo redondos y también tienen párpados, estos son muy pequeños por lo que hice unas líneas muy pequeñas y luego fui removiendo con cuidado la madera, hice esto alrededor del círculo. Así también le di forma superior a la parte de los ojos y que ayudan a que el rostro de baby Groot tenga una expresión.

In the next step, to all the previous cuts with a razor, I used a pointed wire to give a more uniform shape to the eyes, I also made the mouth which I also carved with the wire. Lastly I made the cracks on the top of the head.

En el siguiente paso, a todos los cortes anteriores con navaja, utilicé una alambre puntiagudo para darle una forma más uniforme a los ojos, también hice la boca la cual también talle con el alambre. De último hice las grietas que tiene en la parte superior de la cabeza.

Then I sanded the piece quite a bit, with sandpaper both to improve the carving and to later polish it. Once the entire surface had been polished, I placed the piece in a bottle of varnish to give it a better color and finish.

Luego lijé bastante la pieza, con pap0el de lija tanto para mejorar el tallado como para luego pulirla, una vez pulida toda la superficie introduje la pieza en un frazco de barniz para darle un mejor color y acabado.

Lastly, and now, to make it very realistic, I put acrylic paint on it, where my little daughter helped me, where I told her how she should paint the eyes. Then I finished by making the green coloring at the top of the head, finally I added a chain and thus the Baby Groot keychain was finished.

Por último y ahora si, dejarlo muy realista, le puse pintura acrílica, taera donde me ayudó mi pequeña hija, donde le dije como debía pintar los ojos. Luego terminé haciendo en la parte superior de la cabeza la coloración verde que tiene, por último agregué una cadena y así quedo finalizado el llavero de Baby Groot.
