Greetings friends. The other day I shared on my blog one of the most tender and well-known Pokémon characters, Chansey, that faithful companion of the countless Joy nurses we have seen in this anime.

Well, today I would like to share with you a character completely opposite to Chansey, not only in type, but even in personality. I am referring to the first stage of another of the favorite Pokémon of many, and although I still have yet to show you that character, Gengar, I may as well show you its first stage, Gastly.

Although the three types of first generation Ghost Pokémon are very different in personality, they definitely all share a certain resemblance, so it won't be too long before I bring Gastly's evolutions to my blog, so stay tuned. For now, join me in the creative process of this figurine.

Pues bien, Hoy me gustaría compartir con ustedes un personaje completamente opuesto a Chansey, no solo en tipo, sino en personalidad incluso. Me refiero a la primera etapa de otro de los Pokémon favoritos de muchos, y aunque aún falta para enseñarles a ese personaje, Gengar, bien puedo mostrarles su primera etapa, Gastly.

Aunque los tres tipos de Pokémon fantasma de primera generación son muy diferentes en personalidad, definitivamente todos comparten cierto parecido, así que no tardaré demasiado en traer a mi blog a las evoluciones de Gastly, así que atentos. Por ahora, acompáñenme en el proceso creativo de esta figurita.

Step by step

First I started with the body of the character. This is simple, a small sphere of a similar size to Jigglypuff. Based on this I made this sphere, in a black color.

Below you can see a reference image of the size of this small sphere compared to my fingertips.

Paso a paso

Primero comencé con el cuerpo del personaje. Este es sencillo, una pequeña esfera de un tamaño similar al de Jigglypuff. En case a esto hice esta esfera, de un color negro.

Abajo pueden ver una imagen referencial del tamaño de esta pequeña esfera en comparación con la punta de mis dedos.

Well, once I defined the size of Gastly's body, I continued with his mouth. For this I simply cut a curved line at the bottom of the sphere, with the help of a cutter. With this same tool I opened the cut to place the tongue, a characteristic feature of this Pokémon and its evolutions.

At this point I also placed two small fangs at both sides of the mouth.

Bien, una vez definido el tamaño del cuerpo de Gastly, continué con su boca. Para esto simplemente corté una línea curva en la parte inferior de la esfera, con la ayuda de un cutter. Con esta misma herramienta abrí la cortada para poder colocarle la lengua, un rasgo característico de este Pokémon y sus evoluciones.

En este punto también coloqué dos pequeños colmillos a ambosl ados de la boca.

Once the mouth was done, I continued with the eyes. To make them I simply flattened a white plasticine sphere, which I cut in half to make the two eyes, it was just a matter of placing each half on both sides of the face, with the inclination that you can see in the image below.

Una vez hecha la boca, continué con los ojos. Para hacerlos simplemente aplasté una esfera de plastilina blanca, la cual corté a la mitad para hacer los dos ojos, simplemente fue cuestión de colcoar cada mitad a ambos lados de la cara, con la inclinación que pueden observar en la imagen de abajo.

At this point the character was practically ready, only one detail was missing, that purple haze that Gastle has around him. For this I mixed two shades of purple, one light and one a little darker.

The idea is not to mix it at all, but to show the two shades in the mix. Maybe in the photo you can't see the two colors, but there they are.

Ya en este punto estaba prácticamente listo el personaje, solo faltaba un detalle, esa neblina purpura que tiene Gastle alrededor. Para ello mezclé dos tonalidades de morado, uno claro y otro un poco más oscuro.

La idea no es mezclarlo del todo, sino que se vean las dos tonalidades en la mezcla. Quizás en la foto no se ven los dos colores, pero ahí están.

The next thing is to think about how to make Gastly can keep a shape that looks good, instead of rolling around in life, so I cut a little piece of wire to make a sort of base which I covered with purple, to simulate a mist that goes around the body of the Pokémon and down to the ground.

As you can see in the image below there is the base, where there is a wire under all that purple plasticine.

Lo siguiente es pensar en cómo hacer para que Gastly pueda mantener una forma en la que se vea bien, en lugar de estar rodando por la vida, así que corté un trocito de alambre para hacer una suerte de base la cual cubrí con el purpura, para simular una neblina que va alrededor del cuerpo del Pokémon y baja hacia el suelo.

Como pueden ver en la imagen de abajo ahí está la base, en donde está un alambre debajo de toda esa plastilina morada.

Once the base was done and after it dried, I continued placing more purple plasticine around Gastly's body. Just like its original shape, it has to be placed backwards, as if it were a flare coming out of its body.

Una vez hecha la base y después de que secó, continué colocando más plastilina morada alrededor del cuerpo de Gastly. Tal como su forma original, hay que colocarlo hacia atrás, como si fuese una llamarada que sale de su cuerpo.

The Pokémon was ready; however, I wanted to give it more brightness and more shades of purple in the flames, so I made a mix of dark purple and a lighter one, to give some touches of fire to this haze.

It should be noted that I used the dry painting technique to achieve this effect.

Ya el Pokémon estaba listo; sin embargo, quise darle más brillo y más tonalidades de morado en las llamas, así que hice una mezcla de purpura oscuro y uno más claro, para darle algunos toques de fuego a esta neblina.

Cabe destacar que usé la técnica del pintado en seco para lograr este efecto.

This way the figurine was finished. Below you can see a series of photographs of the final result:
