"The Female Ocean Healer" Step-by-Step Drawing Technique

in Holozing Communitylast year (edited)

Welcome to the world of character drawing! Whether you're a seasoned artist or a newcomer, this tutorial will guide you through the steps to create captivating characters. Before we begin, remember that practice and a strong foundation in anatomy are essential for character drawing.

1.jpg

Step 1: Reference and Sketch

Find references to inspire your character. Sketch a rough outline, focusing on capturing their personality. This step sets the foundation for your creation.

Step 2: Detail and Base Color

Refine your sketch, adjusting details and adding a base color. Experiment with color schemes to enhance the character's personality.

2.jpg

Step 3: Clean Line Art

Lower sketch opacity and create clean line art. This step gives your character a polished appearance, focusing on defining key features.

Step 4: Reintroduce Base Color

Bring back the base color to maintain vibrancy and provide a solid foundation for subsequent layers.

3.jpg

Steps 5 and 6: Shadows

Use "Multiply" layers for shadows. Apply the first layer strategically and intensify with another. This adds depth and drama.

4.jpg

Last step: Highlights and Reflected Light

Switch to a "Screen" or "Overlay" layer to incorporate highlights and reflected light. This adds realism and dynamism to your character.

5.jpg

Summary:
Understand your character's elements and personality before sketching. Regularly practice anatomy for a strong foundation. Enjoy the creative process, and let each stroke bring your character to life.

I almost felt like an artist has been born in me, but I know I'll have to give it a try to know if it was something else born 🤣

This process seem really easy and you sure do know how to do your thing well and nice!

I'm not a good artist yet but this came in really handy for me and would be a good asset for the awesome artists we have here on Hive.

I see you're new here, Hive is happy to have you join us. Enjoy your time here and feel free to share whatever about your passion, we want to read and see all 😍

Haha I would appreciate that so much, maybe I should give it a try now that you're here 😊

💯❤️

I love your characters and being able to see your creative process is super interesting! I also appreciate that you described some of the steps (as for the layers' mode: multiply, overlay, etc.) as this can help others learn new skills and improve their ability :)

Thanks a lot for the appreciation! Glad you enjoy the creative process. Feel free to ask if you have any questions or need more insights.👍

I'd like to know more about shadows and lights and how you make them :) if you are ever gonna write something about them, I would love to read it! :)

Absolutely! Imitating artists' work or sketching real-life scenes are excellent ways to help you understanding of shadows and lights. It's all about applying what you learn through practice. Keep experimenting, and you'll see improvement over time!

When you add the shadows, it really look more impressive! It was already nice when you didn’t add yet, but it became better when you did. I felt like I was in art class. 😉

Thanks a lot! Shadows do add that extra touch. Glad it gave you that art class vibe!Haha😄

Really beutiful art 👍 Would love yo see some of your previows work here as well 🤩 Not Holozing related 🫣😁

No problem, I will keep posting my previous work as well as future ones.

Welcome to the amazing world of decentralized taste! True taste because people will not be afraid to say what they think of.

You recall me of what my son draws. He's still very early stages on trying to understand some strategy of some IRL stuff, but I can reckon this work!

Cheers!

PS: 100% PoweredUP... dope!

Thanks a bunch! Love the idea of decentralized taste. Your son's early drawings must be quite something! Cheers!

One of the examples I already shared many years ago...

He's much more evolved since then...

Wow, that's an awesome drawing! Your son's got some real talent, and it definitely has potential.

That's really good, how old was he then?

Realy cool. Thx!

This was very helpful. I do not yet know how to use an app for my drawing. I think it will be pretty easier. I have been learning to sketch and render with pencil and pen. I will follow your guide in finishing my Healer art too.

That's fantastic to hear! Starting with pencil and pen is a great foundation, and transitioning to a drawing app should indeed be an exciting next step. Best of luck with your Healer art, and enjoy the creative journey! 😊🎨

This is truly beautiful, love it. Welcome how wonderful to know your work, my daughter draws and I'm sure she will love it. And I as an art lover am delighted. Many successes @craizuss
