Yo nunca pensé que una película animada podría llevarme al punto de casi llorar de felicidad (bueno lo de casi podemos discutirlo), pero Coco realmente me toco el corazón.
Y es que mas allá de lo divertido de sus personajes, lo pegajoso de sus canciones, que tan solo con escucharlas una vez ya se quedan en nuestra mente, y el colorido tan impresionante de sus escenas, esta película me hizo reflexionar profundamente sobre mi

La historia de Miguel, su amor por la música y la lucha que entabla por lograr hacer lo que realmente le gusta, me recordó esos momentos en los que uno desea fervientemente seguir sus sueños pero el mundo te grita "mejor estudia algo que de plata".

Y al verlo desafiar a su familia por perseguir su sueño me hizo cuestionar todas las veces que deje de intentar algo por miedo a decepcionar a mi familia y por consiguiente a mi mismo, actuando siempre bajo el precepto de “ellos son los que saben”, obviamente siempre estuvo claro que sus consejos, acertados o no, estaban siendo impulsados por sus deseos de cuidarme.

El momento cumbre, sentimentalmente hablando, para mi en la película fue cuando Miguel le canta a Mamá Coco “Recuérdame”, el enfrentarme a la realidad de la memoria y recordar a quienes ya no estaban junto a mí, abrió un espacio muy intenso y reflexivo sobre el cómo mantenemos vivos a quienes ya no están.

En mi hogar el Día de los muertos no es una fecha importante, realmente es inexistente en nuestra cultura, pero después de ver “Coco” tome la decisión de indagar mas sobre la historia de mis abuelos, mis bisabuelos y de toda la familia a la que la memoria de mis padres me permitió acceder.

Mi abuela vivió junto a nosotros toda su vida y fue ella quien con sus consejos, su paciencia y su nobleza me enseño valores que vi reflejados en esta película como lo son el respeto, la familia y el nunca olvidar de donde venimos. Allí entendí que sus historias eran como tesoros que siempre voy a atesorar y que de alguna manera sigue conmigo en cada recuerdo.

Mi familia viene de una combinación muy particular, española y siria, así que crecí escuchando historias sobre nuestra tierra y sus costumbres y algo que me entrego esta peli fue entender como la identidad de mi familia se construyó con los recuerdos, con las historias de nuestro origen que van pasando de generación en generación, al final no importa cual sea la tradición que se tenga, lo que nos mantiene unidos es el amor y el legado que nuestra familia nos va heredando.

Para mi “Coco” no es una película sobre el día de los muertos o sobre la música Mexicana, es una película sobre la familia, es sobre encontrar nuestro camino sin olvidar a los nuestros y sobre todo es sobre como el amor y los recuerdos hacen que siempre vivan entre nosotros.
Después de verla, en serio que valoro más mis raíces y me di cuenta de que al final lo único que nos queda son las historias que compartimos y el amor que entregamos.

I never thought that an animated film could bring me to the point of almost crying from happiness (well, we can argue about almost), but Coco really touched my heart.

And beyond the fun of its characters, the catchiness of its songs, which just by listening to them once already stay in our minds, and the impressive color of its scenes, this film made me reflect deeply on myself.

Miguel's story, his love for music and the struggle he undertakes to achieve what he really likes, reminded me of those moments in which one fervently wishes to follow his dreams but the world shouts at you "better study something than give money."

And seeing him defy his family to pursue his dream made me question all the times I stopped trying something for fear of disappointing my family and therefore myself, always acting under the precept of "they are the ones who know." Obviously it was always clear that his advice, right or not, was being driven by his desire to take care of me.

The climax of the film for me, emotionally speaking, was when Miguel sings “Remember Me” to Mamá Coco. Facing the reality of memory and remembering those who were no longer with me opened up a very intense and reflective space about how we keep alive those who are no longer with us.

In my home, the Day of the Dead is not an important date, it really does not exist in our culture, but after watching “Coco” I made the decision to investigate more about the history of my grandparents, my great-grandparents and the entire family that my parents’ memory allowed me to access.

My grandmother lived with us all her life and it was she who, with her advice, her patience and her nobility, taught me values ​​that I saw reflected in this film, such as respect, family and never forgetting where we come from. There I understood that her stories were like treasures that I will always treasure and that somehow remain with me in every memory.

My family comes from a very particular combination, Spanish and Syrian, so I grew up listening to stories about our land and its customs and something that this movie gave me was to understand how my family's identity was built with memories, with the stories of our origin that are passed down from generation to generation, in the end it doesn't matter what tradition you have, what keeps us together is love and the legacy that our family leaves us.

For me, "Coco" is not a movie about the day of the dead or about Mexican music, it is a movie about family, it is about finding our way without forgetting our loved ones and above all it is about how love and memories make them always live among us.

After watching it, I really value my roots more and I realized that in the end the only thing we have left are the stories we share and the love we give.
