To be or to seem, that is the dilemma o parecer, ahí está el dilema

Hello, friends of @holos-lotus.

Recently, my husband has encountered some unpleasant situations that have stressed him out a bit. I won't share them here for ethical reasons. However, I will talk about something very relevant: my husband and I think alike, and we are hurt by what happens.
To be or to appear? And that is the dilemma many face, unnecessarily.

Let's look at these two perspectives on the subject.

My last name is Skourtis, a Greek surname. My father is Greek. However, that doesn't make me Greek. And even if I were, it still doesn't make me the Venus de Milo.

It's really annoying when people form an idea, an opinion about something, based on pure stereotypes, or out of ignorance.
Just because I'm a concert guitarist and perform Baroque and Renaissance works doesn't mean I can't enjoy rumba, Cuban son, or trova.

However, it does create a commitment and responsibility in me toward ethics and my profession.
Responsibility and professional ethics.
That's the dilemma.
There are those who hold positions and jobs that have responsibilities that go beyond stereotypes. The best white coat is worthless to a doctor if they don't perform their job as expected: with compassion, dedication, and humanity.
As well as with quality.
That is the BEING that is expected of a doctor.

Just as an office worker or a store clerk in a commercial or restaurant establishment is also expected to comply with their work schedule.
It's worthless to appear to be working for 8 hours and not see the fruit or result of that work.
He's seemingly working, but the reality is that he's not.
He's at work, but not working.
There are also people in important and highly responsible positions who don't live up to expectations of someone at that level.
But my husband's annoyance is related to artists.
You can see many names repeated here and there on social media, but that's just the names. They appear to be successful artists, and they market themselves as artists, but when you look into their work, very few people know it. However, their names and faces are on everyone's lips.
That's one thing. The other aspect that bothers my husband, related to what I described above, is that people who are supposedly specialists in some branches of the arts (or at least their contracts state they hold specialist positions) undervalue or overvalue artists, careers, or works of art, based on what they see or what is repeated elsewhere.

Let's not pretend to be or do what we are not, or what we are not capable of doing. In this interconnected world, every action entails a reaction that directly affects or benefits one or more people.
If we occupy a position, we must be able to perform it as professionally and with dignity as possible. There's no dishonor in asking for help; they may simply say we can't do it or that it's not our thing.
It's worse to pretend to be what we are not. That's a fallacy, and like any lie, it can eventually explode in our faces.
Or worse, it can explode in someone else's face.
A doctor can lose a patient; a manager can contribute to the economy of a place or a group of people.
Even to the intangible heritage of wherever they are.
Assume your responsibilities and take off the masks of falsehood. There is nothing more beautiful than our true face, our truth of what we are and what we are capable of.
All those artists on Facebook who claim to write, paint, or play are worthless if there isn't a mature body of work to back up everything they claim to write, paint, play, or do.
The artist speaks through their work. It bears no semblance of what they claim to be. That voice of the artist is what gives it a name or takes it away.
The before is the only thing capable of immortalizing you forever.
Art always is, it never pretends.

Recientemente mi esposo ha tropezado con algunas situaciones desagradables y que lo han estresado un poco. No las diré por acá, por razones de ética. Sin embargo, hablaré de algo que viene muy al caso, y es que mi esposo y yo pensamos de forma similar y nos duele lo que sucede.
¿Ser o parecer? y ese es el dilema al que muchos se enfrentan, sin necesidad alguna.

Veamos estas dos miradas al tema.

Mi apellido es Skourtis, apellido griego. Mi papá es griego. No obstante, eso no me hace griega. Y, aún así, si lo fuera, tampoco me convierte en la Venus de Milo.

Molesta mucho cuando las personas se hacen una idea, una opinión de algo, basado en puros estereotipos, o por ignorancia.
El que sea guitarrista concertista e interprete obras del Barroco y Renacimiento no quiere decir que no pueda disfrutar de la rumba, del son cubano o de la Trova.

Sin embargo, sí me crea un compromiso y una responsabilidad hacia la ética y a mi profesión.
Responsabilidad y ética profesional.
Ese es el dilema.
Hay quienes ocupan cargos y oficios que tienen responsabilidades que van más allá de estereotipos. De nada le vale la mejor bata blanca al médico si no desempeña su oficio como se espera de él: con compasión, dedicación y humanidad.
Además de con calidad.
Eso es el SER que se espera del médico.

Como mismo también se espera de un oficinista o un dependiente de algún establecimiento comercial o gastronómico, que cumpla con su horario de trabajo.
De nada vale que aparente está trabajando durante 8 horas y no se vea el fruto o el resultado de ese trabajo.
Aparentemente está trabajando sin embargo la realidad es que no lo está.
Se encuentra en el trabajo pero no trabajando.
También están aquellas personas en cargos de importancia y de mucha responsabilidad y no cumplen con ellas con lo que se espera de alguien a ese nivel.
Pero la molestia de mi esposo, está relacionada con los artistas.
Se pueden ver en las redes sociales muchos nombres que se repiten aquí y allá, pero solo eso los nombres. Aparentemente son y se venden como artistas de éxitos, pero cuando averiguas por su obra muy pocos la conocen. Sin embargo sus nombres y sus rostros están en la boca de todos.
Eso por un lado. El otro aspecto que le molesta a mi esposo relacionado con lo descrito anteriormente, es que personas que supuestamente son especialistas en algunas ramas del arte (o al menos su contrato dice que ocupan plazas especialistas) infravalora o sobrevaloran a artistas, carreras u obras de arte, según lo que ven es o lo que se repite en algún lado.

No aparentemos ser o hacer lo que no somos o no seamos capaces de hacer. En este mundo están interconectado cada acción conlleva una reacción que afecta o beneficia a una o varias personas de forma directa.
Si ocupamos una plaza laboral debemos ser capaces de hacerla lo más profesional y dignamente posible. No hay deshonra en pedir ayuda pueden decir sencillamente no podemos o que no es lo nuestro.
Peores aparentar lo que no somos. Eso es una falacia y como toda mentira en algún momento puede explotarnos en el rostro.
O peor explotar en el rostro de otra persona.
Un médico puede perder un paciente, un directivo puede aportar la economía de un lugar o un grupo de personas.
Incluso al patrimonio inmaterial de donde estén.
Asuman su responsabilidades y quítense las máscaras de la falsedad. No hay nada más hermoso que nuestro verdadero rostro, nuestra verdad de lo que somos y somos capaces.
De nada le valen a todos esos artistas en Facebook que dicen escribir, pintar, tocar, si no hay una obra madura que lo respalde todo aquello que dicen escribir pintar tocar o hacer.
El artista habla a través de su obra. No lleva ninguna apariencia de lo que afirman ser. Esa voz del artista y es el que le da un nombre o se lo quita.
El antes es el único capaz del inmortalizarte para siempre.
El arte siempre es, nunca aparenta.
