Today I bring an updated publication of what has been happening to me in this period that I have been supplying chemotherapy and it is more informative or educational so that you keep in mind what should be done with problems in the mouth before undergoing a treatment of this magnitude .
After the breast operation, my doctor told me that I should wait two months to start chemotherapy since it is a very strong treatment and where your entire body has its changes and the mouth is no exception.
During that period of time, my neighbor, religious brother and friend advised me that if I had anything to fix in my mouth, I should do it quickly before starting the chemo. He already had the experience because he went through throat cancer and his breast is a breast cancer survivor and he was involved in the entire process for his breast.
I took his advice and fixed two teeth that he had broken and were already infected and I had my teeth cleaned.
I also had a chipped front tooth from the accident in Colombia and my teeth and gums were still very tender. The doctor told me that my teeth were infected and that I should remove them both at once. With my chipped tooth I sanded it down a little and it turned out phenomenally well. I was very happy because my teeth looked better.
But what can chemotherapy treatment do to your teeth?
Cancer treatments destroy cancer cells, but they also destroy the good cells in our body. Therefore, we are exposed to contracting diseases since our immune system is weakened. Infections are more likely during chemo for this reason. I am currently feeling my gums bleed but I can't do anything until you finish my two remaining chemotherapies. Yesterday, Monday, I went to consult with the Oncologist and I was going to ask him if by putting on the blocker I can have my teeth cleaned, but the doctor did not attend the consultation for major reasons.
One of the consequences of these treatments is blisters in the mouth. In these cases, the nurses in the chemotherapy room have told us what we can do. In a liter of boiled water that is still warm, add 1 tablespoon of Baking Soda and swish and gargle with this mixture. I did it because with the first medication they came out and went away immediately.
When I started chemo I didn't know what to do, I was new to everything related to the side effects and the treatment itself. Thank God I have my neighbor and brother in religion who has guided me at all times.
Before starting treatments you must have good oral health since the consequences of having a broken tooth can be catastrophic and you must wait until a certain time after having had your last cycle of chemo.
Another thing to keep in mind is that we cannot take certain medications unless they are prescribed by the Oncologist. We must consult everything with the treating Oncologist since we are not qualified to know if a medication could be bad for us due to chemo treatment. This is serious stuff, these medications are strong and your body is weak.
These are some of the risks that exist in our mouth during chemotherapy treatments, I thought it was good information to bring here so that we could learn a little more and take away the fear of chemo. With prevention and care everything can be done and come to a happy conclusion.

Hola mis queridos amigos. Hoy traigo una publicacion actualizada de lo que me ha estado sucediento en este lapso que tengo de suministro de quimioterapias y es mas informativo o educativo para que tengan en cuenta que se debe hacer con los problemas en la boca antes de hacerse un tratamiento de esta emvergadura.
Despues de la operacion de seno mi medico me indico que debia esperar dos meses para poder comenzar con las quimioterapias ya que es un tratamiento muy fuerte y donde todo tu cuerpo tiene sus cambios y la boca no es la excepcion.
Durante ese lapso de tiempo mi vecino, hermano de religion y amigo me aconsejo que si tenia cualquier cosa que arreglarme en la boca lo hiciera rapidamente antes de comenzar las quimios. El ya tenia la experiencia porque el paso por un cancer de garganta y su mama es sobreviviente de cancer de mama y el estuvo involucrado en todo el proceso de su mama.
Yo tome su consejo y me arregle dos muelas que tenia rotas y ya estaban infectadas y me hice la limpieza dental.
Tambien tenia un diente frontal astillado desde el accidente en Colombia y mis dientes y encias todavia estaban muy sencibles. La doctora me dijo que mis muelas estaban infectadas y que debia sacarlas las dos de una vez. Con mi diente astillado paso una lija y lo rebajo un poco y quedo fenomenalmente bien. Estaba muy contenta porque mis dientes se veian mejor.
Pero, que puede hacer el tratamiento de quimioterapia a los dientes?
Los tratamientos para el cancer destruyen las celulas cancerigenas, pero tambien destruyen las celulas buenas de nuestro cuerpo. Por lo que estamos expuestos a contraer enfermedades ya que nuestro sitema inmunologico esta debilitado. Las infecciones son mas propicias durante las quimios por este motivo. Actualmente estoy sintiendo que me sangran las encias pero no puedo hacer nada hasta que termines mis dos quimioterapias que me faltan. Ayer Lunes fui a consulta con el Oncologo y le iba a preguntar si colocandome el bloqueador puedo hacerme una limpieza dental pero el medico no asistio a la consulta por causas mayores.
Una de las consecuencias de estos tratamientos son las ampollas en la boca, en estos casos las enfermeras de la sala de quimioterapias nos han dicho lo que podemos hacer. En un litro de agua hervida y que este aun tivia agragar 1 cucharada de Bicarbonato de Sodio y hacer buches y gargaras con esta mezcla. Yo lo hice porque con el primer medicamento me salieron y se me quitaron de inmediato.
Cuando comence con las quimios no sabia que hacer, estaba neofita en todo lo relacionado con los efectos secundarios y con el tratamiento en si. Gracias a Dios tengo a mi vecino y hermano en religion que me ha guiado en todo momento.
Antes de comenzar los tratamientos se debe tener una buena salud bucal ya que las consecuencias de tener un diente roto puede ser catastrofico y debes esperar hasta sierto tiempo despues de haberte hecho tu ultimo ciclo de quimio.
Otra cosa a tener en cuenta es que no podemos tomar ciertos medicamentos a menos que sean recetados por el Oncologo. Todo debemos consultarlo con el Oncologo tratante ya que nosotros no estamos capacitados para saber si un medicamento nos puede caer mal debido al tratamiento de quimio. Esto es cosa seria, estos medicamentos son fuertes y tu cuerpo esta debil.
Estos son algunos de los riesgos que existen en nuestra boca durante los tratamientos de quimioterapias, me parecio buena informacion para traerselas aqui y que aprendieramos un poco mas y le quitemos el miedo a las quimios. Con prevencio y cuidado todo se puede hacer y llegar a feliz termino.
