Searching for Color on a Gray Day

A few days ago, on my birthday, I wrote down all my new goals, and boy did I get off to a good start on my new trip around the sun, but beyond my desires and strong optimism, out there it seems that everything is falling apart: the economy, kindness, even life itself. Today has been a strange day, but in general I can describe it as a gray day because it rains at least once every hour and a half.

Hace unos días en mi cumpleaños escribí todas mis nuevas metas, y vaya que inicié con buen pie mi nueva vuelta al sol, pero más allá de mis deseos y mi fuerte optimismo, allá afuera parece que todo se está desboronando, la economía, la amabilidad, incluso la vida misma. Hoy ha sido un día extraño, pero en general puedo definirlo como un día gris porque la lluvia se hace presente al menos un rato cada hora y media.

I took these photographs this morning at the cemetery. A very important musician in our country died, and despite our grief, we had to attend his wake and sing. In fact, the man had left behind an exclusive repertoire to be sung at his funeral, as he had cancer and knew that the end was inevitable. It is not easy to sing these wonderful and sad musical works in front of his family and friends, everyone is crying, and there is no applause. That, added to the rain, makes the day even grayer. In fact, I had a hard time holding back my tears, but at the end of the performance, while we were waiting for the bus, I decided to look for some color to brighten my gray day.

Estas fotografías las tomé esta mañana en el cementerio, y es que murió un músico muy importante en nuestro país, y más allá de la pena tuvimos que asistir a su velorio y cantar, de hecho el hombre había dejado un repertorio exclusivo para cantar en su funeral, ya que tenía cáncer y sabía que el final sería inevitable. No es nada fácil cantar estas maravillosas y tristes obras musicales frente a su familia y amigos, todos están llorando y no hay aplausos. Eso sumado a la lluvia hace el día aún más gris, de hecho me costó contener las lágrimas, pero al final de la presentación y mientras esperábamos el autobús decidí buscar algo de color para mi día gris.

These flowers are very beautiful. I found them in various colors and there were lots of them, but they are also the flowers that relatives bring to the graves of their deceased loved ones. Death is still very much on my mind. Since my father left this world, I seem to notice the end of life more, but that has brought with it a feeling of appreciating life even more. I don't take photographs just because I like to, but because it helps me appreciate the beauty in every little thing and find a balance between pain and happiness. The scene was sad, but these flowers gave me a sense of peace, and in the end, that is what I am looking for in my daily life: peace, to live and rest, to be happy despite the pain that lurks in my memories... I am glad I took these beautiful photos, and I hope you like them too 🙏

Estas flores son muy hermosas, las encontré de diversos colores y había gran cantidad de ellas, pero de igual modo son las flores que los familiares llevan a las tumbas de sus difuntos. La muerte sigue muy presente en mi mente, desde que mi papá dejó este mundo parece que noto más el final de las vidas, pero eso trajo conmigo un sentimiento de apreciar aún más la vida. No tomo fotografías solo porque me gusta, sino que me ayuda a apreciar la belleza en cada pequeña cosa y encuentro un equilibrio entre el dolor y la felicidad. El escenario era triste, pero estas flores me transmitieron mucha paz, y al final eso es lo que estoy buscando en mi día a día, paz, vivir y descansar, ser feliz a pesar del dolor que se esconde en los recuerdos... Me alegra haber tomado estas hermosas fotos, y espero que también sean del agrado de ustedes 🙏
