Daniel y su mejor amigo el torito danielito

Daniel, siendo muy niño con apenas 6 años de edad iba a la escuela donde pasaba toda la mañana desde las 7:00 am hasta las 12:00 del mediodía, él regresaba a su casa, almorzaba y luego de un pequeño descanso sus padres le llevaban a un sitio llamado por su familia “El Potrero”, el cual comprendía un gran terrero, donde criaban animales como vacunos, gallinas, cerdos entre otros.

Daniel, being a very young boy of only 6 years old, went to school where he spent the whole morning from 7:00 am until 12:00 noon, he returned home, had lunch and after a short break his parents took him to a place called by his family "El Potrero", which included a large plot of land, where they raised animals such as cattle, chickens, pigs and others.

Iniciaban la jornada regando las siembras y cosechando los frutos, y hortalizas de la temporada. Para Daniel como niño era una experiencia agradable, no lo veía como un trabajo, sino como una actividad muy divertida, incluso se vestía al estilo vaquero, jean, botas y un sombrero para protegerse del sol, el cual solo le duraba pocos minutos porque siendo un niño inquieto y juguetón siempre se lo quitaba.

They began the day watering the crops and harvesting the fruits and vegetables of the season. For Daniel as a child it was a pleasant experience, he did not see it as a job, but as a fun activity, he even dressed like a cowboy, jeans, boots and a hat to protect himself from the sun, which only lasted a few minutes because being a restless and playful child he always took it off.

Hubo un día muy especial allí en el terreno porque entre los animales había una vaca muy flaca y se le administraba muchos medicamentos, dado que no engordaba con nada. Para sorpresa de toda la familia, notaron que de un momento a otro la vaca estaba engordando muy rápido. Pero no se trataba de gordura, sino que estaba preñada.

There was a very special day there in the field because among the animals there was a very skinny cow and she was given a lot of medicine, since she did not put on weight with anything. To the surprise of the whole family, they noticed that from one moment to the next the cow was getting fat very fast. But it wasn't fat, it was pregnant.

Cabe mencionar, que cada uno de los animales tenía un nombre familiar, en el caso de la vaca su nombre era Maritza por la hermana de Daniel ya que es muy flaca. Empezaron a notar que estaba muy inquieta ya que caminaba por todo el corral de un lado a otro, y las ubres estaban exageradamente grandes, de ese modo pudieron confirmar que se estaba preparando para el parto.

It is worth mentioning that each of the animals had a familiar name, in the case of the cow her name was Maritza after Daniel's sister because she is very skinny. They began to notice that she was very restless as she was walking all over the corral from one side to the other, and the udders were exaggeratedly large, so they could confirm that she was getting ready for calving.

Luego de un largo rato, la familia decidió quedarse en el terreno para asistir al parto de la vaca, el cual se dio a las 12:00 am instante en que la vaca se detuvo por unos minutos y expulso un gran becerrito, que por su contextura y según las hermanas de Daniel, guardaba una semejanza a él, por lo que decidieron darle su propio nombre “El torito Danielito”.

After a long time, the family decided to stay on the land to attend the birth of the cow, which took place at 12:00 am when the cow stopped for a few minutes and expelled a large calf, which by its build and according to Daniel's sisters, kept a resemblance to him, so they decided to give him his own name "El torito Danielito".

Daniel particularmente recuerda ese instante cuando nació el toro, que salió envuelto en una bolsa de líquido; ese momento sintió una felicidad de haber sido testigo de algo que nunca había visto. Desde ese momento entre ambos nació un vínculo, y la soledad de Daniel desapareció con ello.

Daniel particularly remembers that instant when the bull was born, which came out wrapped in a bag of liquid; that moment he felt a happiness of having witnessed something he had never seen before. From that moment on, a bond was born between the two of them, and Daniel's loneliness disappeared with it.

El vínculo de amistad que había entre ambos era realmente especial y único, para algunos era algo extraño tratándose de un animal, pero eso no fue barrera para que entre ambos vivieran momentos divertidos. Cuando Daniel iba al “Potrero”, lo primero que hacía era salir corriendo a buscar a su amigo, para luego ir caminando hasta los arboles de mangos, un manjar exquisito que ambos disfrutaban, y para finalizar la tarde se metían a bañar en un lago cercano. Daniel siempre llegaba empapado a la casa de la hacienda, por lo que recibía regaños, algo que no eclipsaba su felicidad.

The bond of friendship that existed between the two was really special and unique, for some it was something strange for an animal, but that was not a barrier for them to live funny moments together. When Daniel would go to the "Potrero", the first thing he would do was run out to look for his friend, and then walk to the mango trees, an exquisite delicacy that they both enjoyed, and to end the afternoon they would go swimming in a nearby lake. Daniel always arrived soaked at the hacienda house, for which he was scolded, something that did not overshadow his happiness.

Con el tiempo ambos crecieron al igual que su amistad, tanto es así que Daniel le había comentado a su madre que él quería vivir en el Potrero, de ese modo estar siempre cerca de su mejor amigo. Sin embargo, es algo que no se podía, dado que necesitaba estudiar.

As time went by, both grew and their friendship grew, so much so that Daniel had told his mother that he wanted to live in the Potrero, so that he could always be close to his best friend. However, it was something he could not do, since he needed to study.

Hubo un día en que la familia iba a tener una celebración. Uno de ellos hace la propuesta de celebrar el bautizo de la primera sobrina de Daniel, matando al torito para degustar su buena carne. Pero inmediatamente toda la familia se negó, dado que era alguien importante para ellos y en especial para Daniel.

There was a day when the family was going to have a celebration. One of them made the proposal to celebrate the baptism of Daniel's first niece by killing the bull to taste its good meat. But immediately the whole family refused, since she was someone important to them and especially to Daniel.

Entre degustar las frutas del terreno y refrescarse en las aguas de la laguna, este par de amigos vivieron sus momentos llenos de felicidad, hasta un día en que Daniel estando en el Potrero, se cansó de buscar y llamar a su mejor amigo, pero este no respondía. Nadie sabía lo que había pasado con el toro, y hasta el día de hoy Daniel más nunca lo vio. Estando afligido, atesoro sus recuerdos deseando que su mejor amigo estuviera en un lugar donde fuese también feliz.

Between tasting the fruits of the land and refreshing themselves in the waters of the lagoon, this pair of friends lived their moments full of happiness, until one day when Daniel, being in the Potrero, got tired of looking for and calling his best friend, but he did not answer. No one knew what had happened to the bull, and to this day Daniel never saw him again. Being saddened, he treasured his memories wishing that his best friend was in a place where he was also happy.
