Todos los días aprendemos algo nuevo y en esta oportunidad supe de la existencia de un tipo de avispas llamadas avispas cachicamo, cuyo nombre se debe a la forma que tienen sus avisperos, pues de manera asombrosa estos son parecidísimos al caparazón de un cachicamo.
Every day we learn something new and this time I found out about a type of wasp called cachicamo wasps, whose name is due to the shape of their nests, which are amazingly similar to the shell of a cachicamo.
Yo me impresioné muchísimo cuando me topé con ese avispero. En toda mi vida jamás había visto algo así y lo más impresionante es que está ubicado muy cerca de mi casa, lugar donde llevó años viviendo y hasta ahora solo había visto en esta zona, a un tipo de avispas, conocidas por mí, con el nombre de yare, cuyo nido es muy diferente al de la avispa cachicamo. Lamentablemente, por ahora no tengo alguno cercano para mostrárselos.
Les cuento que durante toda la noche anterior, por mi sector, había caído una fuerte lluvia que derribó varios árboles y ramas y entre los destrozos de la tormenta, se cayó parte de la palmera donde esas avispas tenían su avispero. Por suerte, la rama donde estaba ubicado, quedó intacta. Creo que, de lo contrario, mucha gente habría salido picada como consecuencia de ese incidente.
Lo cierto es que pasé por allí, como suelo hacerlo con frecuencia y en ningún momento me había percatado que semejante avispero estaba en ese sitio. Hasta que esa mañana, por casualidad coincidí con el señor que barre las calles y cuando ambos nos tropezamos con la parte de la palmera que se había caído, él me mostró el avispero y me informó del tipo de avispas del que se trataban, a la vez que me alertó de lo duro de su picadura y qué por esa razón no se había atrevido a recoger la palmera, que esa labor debía ser hecha por personas especializadas en eso.
En un primer momento, ingenuamente, pensé que el avispero se había deslizado productos de los fuertes vientos y que por eso tenía varias capas. Hasta que me enteré del nombre que recibían esas avispas y me di cuenta de que ese avispero es así, tal como lo estaba viendo. Toda una impresionante obra de ingeniería, elaborado de manera que se asemejaba a un cachicamo, quizaś con el objeto de confundir a sus depredadores.
I was really impressed when I came across that beehive. In my whole life I had never seen anything like it and the most impressive thing is that it is located very close to my house, a place where I had been living for years and until now I had only seen in this area, a type of wasps, known to me, with the name of yare, whose nest is very different from that of the cachicamo wasp. Unfortunately, I don't have one close by to show you.
I tell you that during the whole night before, in my sector, a heavy rain had fallen that knocked down several trees and branches and among the destruction of the storm, part of the palm tree where those wasps had their nest fell. Luckily, the part where it was located remained intact. I think that otherwise a lot of people would have gotten stung as a result of that incident.
The truth is that I went there, as I usually do, and at no time did I realize that such a beehive was in that place. Until that morning, by chance, I coincided with the man who sweeps the streets and when both of us stumbled upon the part of the palm tree that had fallen, he showed me the beehive and told me about the type of wasps it was, while he warned me about the hardness of their sting and that for that reason he had not dared to pick up the palm tree, that that work had to be done by people specialized in that.
At first, naively, I thought that the beehive had slid because of the strong winds and that's why it had several layers. Until I found out the name of those wasps and I realized that that beehive is like that, just as I was seeing it. A whole impressive work of engineering, designed to look like a cachicamo, maybe in order to confuse its predators.
Como podrán darse cuenta, muy cerca del avispero hay otro nido inmenso que parece una bola de color marrón oscuro, en este caso se trata de un nido de comején, este tipo de nido si muy común verlo en mi urbanización. Se trata de una plaga muy dañina para la madera.
As you can see, very close to the beehive there is another huge nest that looks like a ball of dark brown, in this case it is a termite nest, this type of nest is very common to see in my neighborhood. It is a very damaging pest for wood.
Después de esto, he pasado varias veces por el lugar y no puedo dejar de ver y de asombrarme por el tamaño, por la forma del avispero y más aún de que siendo un avispero tan inmenso, de no haber sido por el barrendero, quizás nunca no me habría dado cuenta de que ese nido estaba allí. Cuestión que me llama a reflexión, acerca de la inmensidad del universo, de lo poco que a menudo percibimos o de lo poco que abrazamos la realidad que nos rodea. A la vez que no deja de darme vueltas en la cabeza, aquel refrán que dice: Si es culebra, me muerde.
Por ahora llegó hasta aquí con esta publicación. Quizás muchos de ustedes sí conocían a este tipo de avispas, yo aún no salgo del asombro y por eso quise mostrárselas a través de esta publicación para que quienes aún no la conozcan tengan la oportunidad de saber algo de ellas. Wow amiga, impresionante, la verdad es que no terminamos de conocer todas las variedades de especies que hay en la naturaleza. No había escuchado nunca hablar de esa Avispa Cachicamo y menos haber visto semejante avispero, al igual que el nido de comején, pensé que era de abejas, es muy parecido. Gracias a Dios nadie salió afectado con piquetes después de la caída del árbol. Saludos.
