Hey!

Welcome to another Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets post, this time featuring the Noxious Fumes rule.

Noxious Fumes

With this rule, every Monster starts the battle poisoned, which means that after every round your Monsters are damaged by two. There are plenty of different ways you can deal with this rule, and in this case, if you’re new to the game and you’re reading this, remember: sometimes you don’t need to beat your opponent’s team, you just have to survive. This is especially true in the Bronze and low Silver Leagues, where Monster abilities are scarcer.

Now, the first way, and I would say the ideal way, if you have the cards, is using Monsters with Immunity, especially those with an attack. Immunity makes you immune, obviously, to negative status effects, so you don’t start the battle poisoned, and your Monster can just wait till everyone falls. Two great Monsters with Immunity that you should acquire are the Forgotten One and Harklaw at level two.

If you don’t have Immunity Monsters, you can use cards which possess the Cleanse ability, which removes negative status effects. Of course, this only applies to the tank, so you got to be very wise in your tank of choice here. My favorites tanks are the fast ones, strengthen by a Martyr. Also, you could use cards with the Resurrect ability, since the resurrected Monster respawns without poison.

Another alternative is by using effects that muffle the poison; the first option being Monsters with the capacity of healing themselves, which you can combine with Cleanse. Another option could be Monsters with the Life Leech ability, which increase their health every time they damage a unit’s health by half the damage dealt or effects like Scavenge. And of course, Gladiators; they kill and all of their stats, including health increase by one.

Lineup & Analysis

This battle was done during a Brawl in which I was the Arena Host, so Quora Towershead was banned from the battle. Also, the fray rules only allowed Gold Foil cards from the Chaos and Rebellion sets, with a Bronze level cap. In this battle, only the Life Splinter was inactive, there was a 37 Mana cap and there was an Odd Ones Out and an Equal Opportunity rule.

Because of the poison I went for the Fire Splinter, where I had a key Monster for said situation, which could also benefit from the Melee advantage granted by Equal Opportunity, so:

  • Tarsa as my Summoner. She buffs both Melee attacks, great in this ruleset and Health, which helps against the poison.
  • In the first position, as a fake tank, the Chaos Agent. Probably I had some Mana left and I positioned him there. He has Dodge, so he is not a bad barrier against physical attacks.
  • Then, the Radiated Brute. Her Speed is not that great, as usual in the Fire Splinter, but she has a good deal of Health points, which again, help against the Poison.
  • In third position, the Disintegrator. Because of the Equal Opportunity rule, I assumed there was going to be many Melee attacks, so I picked him to de-buff said attacks.
  • Then my key card, the Forgotten One, who has plenty of Health, a very strong Melee attack, as well as Immunity, which is ideal to survive in this ruleset.
  • In fifth position, the Firecaller. Not bad, not great, good attack, but is only here because of his Martyr effect, which boosts the adjacent Monsters stats by one, when dying.
  • At last position, the Tenyii Striker, who has balanced stats, good enough for this ruleset.

The battle was lost, it was a close defeat, but a defeat nonetheless. If I have to think about why I lost, I would say that my opponent’s Summoner helped him a lot, even though he didn’t have a Monster immune to the poison, or a poison cleanser.

My opponent’s Summoner, which is Legendary by the way, grant his entire team two extra Health points, which in this poison rule is like having an extra round for every Monster. At the same time, giving all your Monsters the Trample ability in an Opportunity rule, is great advantage, since you can get many extra attacks, every single time your Melee Monsters take down a foe.
