Land Earning
Yep. I am going to introduce new terms and new learning in relation to how you are going to manage land resources in Splinterlands. Yes, there will be a lot of plots. So:
"Buckle up, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye!"
This is going to be a lot of data analysis, so try to keep up!
One of my major problem in managing land is the fact that things are constantly changing, and since I populated my plots randomly, I continue to remain highly inefficient. Now that is only one problem, not the largest problem. The largest problem is, I don't even know how to fix it. So I have been trying to learn from others how they are managing it. Since land is a passive game mostly, it boils down to ROI. Trouble is it is very hard to calculate earning, and build any economic model, therefore it is nearly impossible to calculate ROI. So I am not even going to try. In this post, I am simply trying to summarize EARNING from land.
The plot above takes top 50 land owners resource production and converts into DEC, as of today. Bars represents hourly earnings based on the natural resources each landowners produce. Obviously I have to take out Vugtis, because with him present visibility of any land related chart is TOAST, and I don't want to use a log scale early on.
Much better!
Notice, spswhale produces just iron and stone, while yabapmatt produces only Aura! Very interesting!
Bars are stacked histogram, so that you can see how people are producing at what rate, and as you are see they are variable! @michealb and @jarvie produce a lot of SPS and Aura, but since jarvie runs a larger grain and stone deficit, michealb's earning is higher at 5350 DEC/hr, while jarvie's earning is 4701 DEC/hr. Here is a supporting chart to help understand that:
You can multiply them by 24 to get daily earning in DEC 128,400 DEC for michealb and 112,824 DEC for jarvie!
LERs
Land Efficiency Ratios!
Just because they earn a lot doesn't make them most efficient. They are both large land owners. Michealb has 1548 plots active, while Jarvie has 1409. They both produce similar amount of DEC/hr. What if I take a ratio of the hourly DEC generate per plot?
Land Plot Efficiency (LPE) = (Total DEC Equivalent generated/hr)/ (Number of active Plots)
There you have it! Vugtis does generate 2.54 DEC/hr/plot, but in terms of efficiency he is ranked 280! Obviously! Simply because he has 6283 plots. Whereas, goldmatters with only 154 plots, ranks 4 in the LPE, because his LPE = 16.92! Pulling 2605 DEC/hr, or 16% of Vugtis's DEC rate, but with only 2% of the number of plots Vugtis runs!
I am sure you see the power of LPE!
Next:
But, how much PP Vugtis employ?
Land Card Efficiency (LCE) = (Total PP employed)/ (Total DEC Equivalent generated/hr)
As per the formula. Vugtis's LCE = 3594, with a rank of 1204
While, Goldmatters LCE = 1658, with a rank of 1342; which is rather similar.
We will make plots to understand the utility of these land ratios better.
LPE Plot
Thanks to @beaker007 I have collected data for 2915 land owners who are currently producing resources from land. Out of that 1836 land owner account currently producing 0 or above DEC. Therefore, 2915-1836 = 1079 accounts are generating negative DEC. Please take that with a grain of salt. This is because, as of now, we can't assign at instantaneous value to research. If an account produces a lot of research, it is currently net negative, though I am sure (I hope) it has some future value that is unknown.
Point is, if the net DEC equivalent generated from all land plots for a particular account is negative, its LPE Ratio becomes negative.
Circle size is base PP. Yes, Vugtis is very visible in the middle! But look at @cryptoeater and @goldmatters ! They are highly efficient!
We can also plot LPE against boosted PP, and it shows a very curious scatter. It separates the cloud from positive earning vs. current net loss. Also shows how efficient some of the people are. For example, I am barely positive! Don't worry I am going to change that soon!
There you have it. If you want to see where you are as a landowner, please let me know in the comment, and I will try to highlight you.
@azircon was quick in making a post about it 🤣.
This is based on first data set that contains some errors.
The latest data can be viewed for all on the dev site:
https://splinter-lands-dev.streamlit.app/region_dec_metrics_page
If you encounter errors or data is incorrect let me know i'll try to figure it out.
Note: also that all these dec amounts are from producing plots. It does not take into account what some are earning via collecting taxes.
Updated with new data
Vugtis updated his plots in the last 12 hours! He now makes 5K more DEC/hr!
The guy is Saudi Arabia of Oil Business! He can change his production on a dime!
I will update and enhance the visualization with many more plots! :)
Can you add me please? 104 plots so not large but all are being used. Would like to see where I fit in your charts.
here you are
Just above 1.0 :)
This is the efficiency plot.
and then the earning plot.
With Vugtis is hard to see... let me zoom in to mortals :)
You are earning 118 DEC/hr.
Vugtis earns 15,980 DEC/hr. As a reference.
Quite pitiful as an investment, but I will stick with it for now as I tend to like 'Strategy Games' and this feels like one, albeit a hideously expensive one. Thanks for the data, I am off to harvest my peon yield.
LPE of 1.0 translates to 1 DEC/hr/plot. Or 24DEC/plot/day
I just bought a few more cards in order to ramp my production. Focus is on Stone for now. But it always depends on what the market has as Beta-Rare cards. Just got another death, that will go well on my grain plot. It's a long road ahead, but at least I only have 5 plots to handle - I should get that efficiency up quite nicely in a couple of months :-)
I also have my first boost in now the title I earned in the pre-sale. Step by step... Thanks for the new terms to use when it comes to calculating my land production! I'll absolutely use them :-D
If you have smaller number of plots then it is much easier of manage and make them more efficient.
This is reassuring to see myself in the mix (@nai.collection) as I did work the initial launch manually to be as efficient as I could. The first 100 plots was great but since I have definitely not focused on efficiency. Now that I have all plots working, that will be my focus but something tells me that the days of cheap PP are over...
This is a dynamic system. After doing these plots, I will make some changes myself :)
Land is like a separate game by itself within Splinterlands. Managing it must take a lot of time. It looks fun but too costly for me.
actually can be automatized quite well, once you have everything in place. still a hassle now, as you need to exchange resources around once a week.
Well it is way too costly for me too, and with very little ROI.
Thanks for all the charts! I had fun seeing how other players are working their land and comparing it to my strategy! I'm proud to be the largest net producer of stone! 💪
You are welcome! I might have to do a over the counter trade with you on stone :)
I have no stone. The problem is the fees!
This is awesome. Would love to see where I am on these various charts if you have a minute. Thanks for pulling this together @azircon and @beaker007!
You are efficient Brave, just outside the 500 DEC/hr cut off mentioned by vugtis
Just outside the cloud here
PS. looks like you have to step up your land game Brave :)
Land earning data deep dive! 🐴 Random plot placement got me feeling like Dorothy too! 😂 #blockhorse
I am totally feeling like Dorothy!
I thought land works itself but i was wrong the first day. Still need to learn land efficiency . It is a long trial and error after waiting for construction. Lucky if land is already developed.
Hardly it worked itself! Also it is now constantly evolving. I wish I paid more attention earlier.
Once this season of Wild is over I’ll be concentrating on Modern and Land so will be great to start reorganising again with all of Beakers tools, certainly not on scale of some of these guys but hope to be in positive return
I am doing it right now as we speak.

Well I have not kept up to even know what to do with the 1 legendary lot I have... THis was all over my head, but thanks for doing the math beucase if I knew what I was doing I'm sure this would be very helpful lol
This requires a lot of work on the management side!
I figured I have not been in touch with the game as I should be. I was actually thinking of listing my plot but wanted to wait to see if a bull cycle could return me a bit more on my investment. I figured a legendary lot would be worth something someday.
I don't even know if my name would be showing just because I used land DEC for the presale. But I would like to be highlighted if I show up.
Thank you for sharing @azircon. Cheers.
