This week’s Community Engagement Challenge is all about the newest promo with the twisty name—Tatoshi Drakamoto. The challenge is to show off your early impressions or battle lineups using this new unit. But I’m going to take a bit of a different angle—because honestly, I’m still on the fence about whether I’ll actually buy this card.

Let’s break it down a bit.

First Impressions: YES, I Want It

Straight up, Magic Sneak is a massive deal. Only seven cards in the entire game have sneak magic, and out of those, I only own one. So having a summoner that enables sneak magic? That opens up so many possibilities—especially for teams that don’t normally get access to that kind of backline pressure.

Spite, on top of that, is also a cool ability. A nice damage reflection mechanic that punishes your opponent’s heavy hitters. But I’ll be honest—getting to the level where that ability unlocks is way out of my league. 😅

The Cost: Ouch

To get Tatoshi to level 3, which is where you unlock Inspire, you’ll need 10 CC(BCX). That’s 2,500 vouchers. At today’s prices, that’s around $62.

Now, that’s not completely out of reach (i have saved up some vouchers)… but it’s not nothing either. Especially when I start comparing it to all the other things I should probably be doing with that money:

• Land expansion: I still need to stake more DEC, stake more cards, and upgrade my totems. (Yeah… basically everything 😂)
• Conclave Arcana expansion: That presale is coming in hot and I’m not done investing there either.

And let’s be honest—$62 doesn’t actually go that far when you look at how much it would take to level up a summoner to 5 and the supporting units that can make use of it.

So… the smarter move might actually be to buy 10 copies, hope for a gold foil (or miracle black foil), and call it a day. Worst case, I can just hang on to the cards or sell them later. This is exactly why we store vouchers, right?

Timing and Strategy

Don’t forget that vouchers are about to be very useful in the coming weeks. We’ve got ticket sales and auction events for Conclave Arcana, and both of those are going to eat up vouchers. That might also mean voucher prices go up again soon.

So do I lock in now while they’re still ~$0.025? Or wait and risk paying more later? Choices, choices… once again 😅

Town Hall Tidbits

On a separate note, I’ve got to say this week’s Town Hall really pumped me up. It’s not all finalized yet, but they hinted at a bunch of features they’re working on:

• Avatars
• Guild Updates
• New Reward Cards
• Quest Achievements
• Land-Specific Cards

All of these updates are exciting, and while I don’t expect them all to drop in 2025, it’s great to see what the focus points are. Especially with how smooth the last few months have been in terms of updates—if they can keep this pace up, we’re in for an awesome year.

And what I really like? They’re thinking about the whole game—not just battles, not just land, but how it all ties together. That’s the kind of vision that keeps me coming back.

So yeah… I’m still not 100% decided on Tatoshi, but one thing’s for sure—it’s an exciting time to be a Splinterlands player. Whether I go all-in on this magic sneak monster or keep saving for land and Conclave, there’s no shortage of big decisions to make.
