Melee Mayhem: The Ruleset not to Play Melee?

In this article, we break down the ruleset melee mayhem which allows all melee cards to attack no matter of position. They will all attack the front if the cards do not have sneak or opportunity on them. That can be dangerous if your opponent is expecting it and brings thorns or retaliate monsters. As usual, we will break down a few strategies to use for this ruleset. After that, there will be a battle examined round by round to show off one of the strategies. Strategies:

1. Jared Scar: You know a card is great when there is a strategy completely around using it. This strategy pretty much only works at gold league and higher as scar gets the piercing at gold league. Boost him up and let him eat and at the end he can be an absolute unstoppable force. The true strike he has with the slow speed was a must have and a great design component for him.

2. Magic only: Sometimes the best strategy for this ruleset is to actually not use melee cards at all. Magic very powerful anyways but can be a sneaky way to go around the opponents big hitters especially if they have no void armor monsters. Having some protect on your team is important however as when those melee monsters hit, they often hit very hard.

3. Taunt/Tank with Thorns or Retaliate: Naturally if you expect your opponent to go melee heavy, having thorns or retaliate are a must have to hurt your opponent every single time. No matter how strong your opponent's cards are, they will pay for there melee decision. Another great ability to add to this strategy is a shield monster.

Let us know get into the battle round by round and see which strategy prevailed. I will preface this battle saying my opponent was under-leveled for the silver league match we were in so that plays into things slightly. Without further delay, let us Rumble!

Round 1

3.png

Melee mayhem along with no abilities ruleset which adds an extra layer of challenge given you cannot tank up with thorns or retaliate as mentioned above. Because of this, I went with the magic spam strategy to ensure my hits would take every time. In round 1, everything went according to plan. My shields on the kraken held up strong and made him last until round 2. His tank went down given all my magic damage and even his oshannus is bleeding heavily.

Round 2

Two monsters down in round 2 for my opponent while my agor stood up tall given all his shields. The hits into my shields are really devastating for my opponent which is why the magic strategy was the way to go.

Round 3

In round 3, the onslaught continues and he is only left with the serpent of eld remaining by the end of the round. Even with higher speed the magic damage was too much with delwyn.

As you can see, if you can zig when everyone else is zagging you can have an easy win. Being a counter thought person and knowing the response to the highest likely match is really what can set the great players apart. If you enjoyed this content, please leave an upvote or comment on any other strategies you like to use in this ruleset combo.
