Hello! For this week I'd like to share my weekly battle showcasing Goblin Shaman's utility at Level 1 in the Bronze / Silver 3 League.
At Level 1, for 3 mana, he has no attacks but has 4 HP and Weaken, which reduces all enemy monsters by 1 HP. I will explain later on why I use him as a secondary tank and why he is essential for this particular battle.
Battle Preview
Ruleset & Strategy
In this battle we have Little League and Healed Out. For Little League at the lower leagues, magic spam is definitely an option, but I didn't have Kelp Initiate on this account, so I wouldn't have a tank. Based on his battle history, I knew hWith Little League I knew that Venari Wavesmith wouldn't be available, so I decided to beat Water with the Fire Splinter and Malric Inferno.
Position | Monster | Reason |
---|---|---|
1 | Cerberus | Even with healing disabled, Cerberus is still one of the best tank options in Little League, especially if you're playing on a budget (like me). |
2 | Goblin Shaman | Weaken comes in handy when preparing against Elven Mystic and Medusa, since 3 HP is out of range to take out in one hit with the 2 melee attacks I would have in my team. The 4 HP on Shaman is also great reason to use as 2nd tank in Little League. |
3 | Creeping Ooze | Slow comes in handy to reduce the speed of Elven Mystic and Medusa to 1, which would allow my backline a more accurate shot at taking them out. |
4 | Serpentine Spy | Main DPS with Opportunity and his 3 speed will hit before any of the typical magic monsters in the opponent's lineup. |
5 | Battering Ram | A good cheap card with Opportunity. Even at 1 HP and 1 Speed, the difference of my choice for Battering Ram over the usual Kobold Miner for 2 is because it'll target the lower HP monsters first instead of the last monster. |
6 | Uraeus | I chose Uraeus as my Sneak attack monster just to prepare against the off-chance of a Sneak attack. Otherwise it most likely would have been Elven Cutthroat. |
Round 1
After all the buffs and debuffs, it really doesn't seem like my Cerberus will last long. However, since my Serpentine Spy has a higher speed than Ice Pixie, there's a good chance that he can take her out before dishing any damage. Unfortunately, RNG dictates that 25% Flying chance to dodge melee works this time.
After the first hit of Ice Pixie though, I have a better chance of Uraeus taking out Elven Mystic in the back, which saves me 2 magic damage to my tank. The rest of the volleys of magic damage go off. Unfortunately, even Battering Ram misses his attack to Ice Pixie, keeping her intact for round 2.
Round 2
At the start of Round 2, I still have a decent chance of winning this since Uraeus will definitely take out Enchanted Pixie. However, if Serpentine Spy misses his attack on Ice Pixie, then I will definitely lose Goblin Shaman. Thankfully the hit connects, and I take out two of his monsters before they can get an attack out. Medusa, the last one standing, gets a hit on Goblin Shaman, but is eventually taken out by Battering Ram.
Round 3 / Cleanup
At this point in the match Kelp Initiate is pretty much a sitting duck. GG.
Final Thoughts
Goblin Shaman is pretty solid at Bronze, especially at Level 3 when it starts to get +1 Magic Attack. For low mana battles, Goblin Shaman acts as a secondary tank and definitely must be included in your lineup, as a Snipe or Sneak meat shield.
I sincerely hope this helps you enjoy the game more and appreciate its depth and strategy. 😁
Good luck, and may your rewards chests always contain gold foil legendaries.
