Back to the big bags of SPS up for grabs on Day 2 of the Drybone Wild Gold Invitational Gold Foil tournament event by the SPS DAO. The lower league means I have a few more options from my Wild GF collection to use at max level for the tournament. And look who we have here, another guildmate standing in my way, none other than the anti-troll @azircon!

This fine gentleman has some of Prawtoria's finest Gold Foil collections, so this Wild battle was tough. The 27-mana battle had three rulesets, Back to Basics, Shades of Gray, and Melee Mayhem. In neutral-only battles, the elements only influence the selection of summoners for their abilities and tactics. Since neutrals fight with any element, sometimes they can suffer from having more average stats than other standouts in elements.

The featured card for today's battle is the big bad neutral common from Untamed rewards -- Sand Worm. This 9-mana Wild staple known for its ability to wreck a backline with the key piercing ability at max Level 10. It is still plenty good in this Gold League b2b battle where it can show off its 6 melee, 4 speed, and crucially important 7 health at Level 8.

This matchup of my Kelya vs. Azircon's Tofu reminded me of the days when I was just getting starting playing Splinterlands in Jan 2022 and Mylor (with its Thorn ability for 3 mana) was everywhere. The best I could do at the time was try to power through it using Kelya's speed and armor. Fast forward three years, and I'm still using the same strategy, except now against Tofu's killer claws!

My #1 tip for Back to Basics is that speed kills! When it came down to it, Kelya's armor for six monsters was better than Tofu's protection for three monsters and the speed boost from Kelya was worth more than the +2 health from Tofu. Sand Worm ended up dying to the thorns damage, but got four solid attacks in first with the help of Kelya's armor!

Azircon and I played some similar monsters, including the standout Rebellion reward epic Halfling Refugee and Xenith Archer. His Elanor looked cooler than my chicken, but they both bought the job done taking a hit. After losing its snipe because of the b2b rule, Centaur has the same stats as Goblin Chariot from Untamed but for one less mana -- Win! Is Azircom missing this Beta GF common from his playing collection?! Maybe he'll remember to have it next time...

Nice battle, thanks for sharing! Back to basics is one of my least favorite rule sets but at least you had melee mayhem to make it more interesting.
