BATTLE LINK -- January 18, 2025 -- Day 18 of 365 vs. @pancholfugazi
Today's battle comes from the fierce competition of early season Modern Diamond 1 as players make their way up to Champion League. The 55-mana battle had three rulesets: Four's a Crowd, Aim True, and Ferocity. Only two elements were excluded, Life and Water, so I soured on a Tofu team. With only four spots to use 55 mana, this battle was all about crafting a flexible team to fill each position with speed and power.
My opponent brought the power, with two double-striking giants and the biggest monster in the game -- Rage. Up front, they had Djinn Muirat with forcefield that thwarted the trample attack from my Venka. Raa is an absolute assassin in true strike so you don't have to worry about missing with its slow speed. When it comes to taking out big monsters, its giant killer attack hits for eight when it randomly connects with any monster with summoning cost 10 or more.
Raa nearly did the business against my squad, but ultimately, the attacks from Titan and Raa were too slow for my much faster team. All my powerful cards had a base speed of 4+ and half had a dual attack, rather than double strike.
Rebellion's legendary Dragon summoner -- Akane -- is the featured card of the battle for the added speed it brings to any battle from its ambush tactic. By ambushing the opponent, Akane can guarantee to you get the jump on your opponent. Even more powerful in synchronous Ranked play, you can use the Ambush tactic to strategically pick apart the lineup of the opponent based on your pre-game options.
Because my opponent had a tank with forcefield, I opted to ambush with Riklauniman and Florre instead. Rik neatly exposed Muirat's forcefield, allowing Venka to trample through in Round 1 attack. Rik and Florre combined to deal 13 damage in the ambush round and then served up speedy beats to take out Carnage Titan in Round 1 before it could do anything.
Raa killed off both monsters it hit with true strike in Round 1, but it was too little, too late. The two giants on his team just didn't hold up to the onslaught from Venka and my three giants: Rik, Florre, and Arkemis. I had a blast with this one, using a 55-mana cap to fill only four monster slots. What Would Tofu Do?
