BATTLE LINK -- January 2, 2025 -- Day 2 of 365 vs. @bulldog1205
Today's BOTD comes from my Modern Champion League ranked grind against the popular Web3 streamer and former Splinterlands community manager, @bulldog1205. The 20-mana battle had three rulesets: Up Close & Personal, Even Stevens, and Maneuvers. On top of those limiting rulesets, only three elements were permitted: Earth, Life, and Dragon.
With the melee-only rule and both elements allowed, this battle set up perfectly for a Tofu team to leverage its thorns ability. Bulldog was on board with this plan, but I tried something different, instead choosing Helios Matriarch for the conscript ability to play a Gladiator card as the focus of my attack.
The featured card for today's battle is the Earth epic Gladiator, Quora Towershead. With its dual attack and bloodlust ability, the mighty Quora can get out of hand quickly with destructively powerful attacks. Combined with her growing health and self-heal ability, Quora can sustain herself against thorns damage from the opponent. Finally, selecting Dragon allowed me to place Vruz up front as tank to get in a quick attack before dying and martyring up Quora's base attack.
The plan worked to perfection. Vruz attacked and died to beef up Quora's attack stats. Quora connected on an important melee attack on the opposing flyer to kill it and bloodlust her numbers. At that point, Bulldog just didn't have enough firepower to take down Quora, who was gaining five health with every heal. From here it was academic, as Quora continued to grow her stats with each additional kill.
A lot has been made of Olivia's mimic ability and how powerful it can be over a long battle. I will admit it was a bit lucky for me and my Quora that Olivia never picked up the dispel ability, because it would have reset Quora back to its base attack of 3 melee and 2 magic. But without the dispel, Olivia stood no chance to survive this showdown with Quora. Better luck next time, mate!
