Splinterlands Reward Shop is Coming

in Splinterlandslast month (edited)

The rewards system of the ranked play for Splinterlands is going through an overhaul process.

The first part of this overhaul was released at the end of February. I've seen people loving the new system and people hating it. As always, there will be two opinions on everything. I am kind of unbiased because I only play Brawls and Land. I stopped playing Ranked (directly) when it became more of a chore for me instead of being fun. That doesn't mean it doesn't continue to be fun for other players.

I like the Reward Shop addition that will be rolled out in a few days as a player. I am undecided on it as an investor. It also comes with a new soulbound token Glint, which is the only one that can be used in the new Reward Shop. Glint will replace reward points and will be earned after every battle and a big chunk of it at the end of the season.

Preview of the Reward Shop artwork (probably?) from Splinterlands' post.

Players, instead of receiving loot chests for their daily focus (which will be removed) or at the end of the season, will be able to use their Glint to buy things from the Reward Shop.

Except for a few limited-edition titles, all rewards that can be purchased in the Reward Shop are soulbound: reward card "draws", merits, energy & potions. That practically excludes SPS rewards, which can right now be found in loot chests. However, the SPS rewards that would be given for the daily focus and season rewards are now moved to the Wild and Modern reward pools, respectively, meaning the daily SPS rewards on matches won will increase significantly.

Reward card "draws" are similar loot chests for soulbound reward cards, with different chances of getting higher rarity cards, GF, and multiples.

The Reward Shop gives a lot of flexibility to both players and the team.

On the team side, they can decide what rewards can be added or removed from the shop and set or change the prices in Glint. Glint is soulbound, so it has no price, which means it doesn't fluctuate either. The team can play with this reward more easily, offer bonuses (50% extra Glint for battles won in Modern format, for example), take them back, etc. We will see how much players will like the power this gives to the team over their rewards.

On the other side, players have more flexibility too, except it will be in a closed system. You can decide to focus entirely on reward cards, for example, until you max them (which is what I'll do). That can be combined with burning double soulbound reward cards (that you already have maxed out). You receive Glint with which you can focus to get more reward cards until you max them all, hopefully. Or you can use Glint for something else.

You can also save up Glint between seasons and in the long term if there is a target you save for. The new soulbound reward cards which are expected this summer was mentioned as a potential target for some players.

We shouldn't understand that because players' flexibility is in a closed system, it doesn't matter. You can't sell soulbound reward cards, but you can use them to generate better rewards. We should never forget that.

I'm looking forward to be able to concentrate my efforts in upgrading my reward and gladius cards. I have some reward cards that are maxed out and over 50 spare cards that I can't use. Now I will be able to burn them and get other reward cards. I'm looking forward to that :-)

I have the same plans, at least for the regular reward cards. I haven't thought about speeding up my Gladiator card level-ups, but after they are burnable for merits, what else would I use the GF ones for, lol?

I'm still kind of surprised that enough people maxed out their reward cards already. My account plays in Champ for a good while of a season and I have received Champ chests all this time and am still quite far from maxing them out (especially the epic and legendary ones).

I only managed to max regular cards so far and some epic. With legendarys I'm quite far away from having them maxed :-)

This is my progress:

Notably, I have 3 maxed-out legendaries but no maxed-out epics, and still, I'm doing better overall on the epics.

I don't like that we get another token out of nowhere, but I like that we have more choices now. There will be more strategy involved in what rewards to choose from.

Yeah, seems like the team really loves adding new tokens to the game, lol. You should see how many there will be on Land. I'm ok with that, not sure how easy it is for a new player, though...

Land to me is like a separate game anyways, and isn't really for new players. This change could be good for beginners though.

Yes, it's unlikely a new players of Splinterlands can afford to jump into land.

This change could be good for beginners though.

For a new player who starts now, after the game is already established, it's probably one of the only ways to catch their interest, if the player also likes the game and a growth approach for the account.

Rank battles definitely feel like a chore. Getting destroyed every now and then by maxed level decks is quite annoying. I hope the new changes make things get better.

Getting destroyed every now and then by maxed level decks is quite annoying.

I think that will continue to exist with the new changes because there is no guarantee of matching players of similar ranks anymore. All they aim toward is that the win rate is around 50%, if I understood correctly.

Unfortunately, under the new system - the play2earn is canceled. A player will not be able to cash out his rewards, as everything is soul-bound. I don't like this direction at all. You invest a lot (packs are expensive) and the value of your assets is constantly decreased by inflation. At the same time, you can't get tradable rewards...

Theoretically, one could invest or rent only a few key cards, and base their strategy of winning on soulbound reward cards (if they can pull it off, especially at lower levels).

Normally, I agree with you. Tradable rewards are almost zero, besides SPS, but it was also a major exploitation area for the game.

One more thing to save up to be competitive.... They are making too many changes too fast, it may start to kill off more players interest in playing...

I don't know. Others say they are moving too slowly. I think the truth is often in the middle and no one is 100% right, no matter how pure their side seems to be.

Have they mentioned anything about using soulbound cards on land recently?

Nope. I think the last reference was in response to a question, and Matt said there probably won't be a separate fee to pay to unlock soulbound reward cards for land, there will only be a fee to fully unlock it, but that will come later, after this rewards overhaul.

i dont play splinterlands but it seems too much expensive and little rewarding

too much expensive and little rewarding

Yeah, new players may have this impression, maybe that's one of the reasons why Splinterlands doesn't reach a wider audience.

I will be waiting for that GLINT and see how it works.

At first hand, from the players' perspective, the new system with the Reward shop should make it more predictable and more enticing to grow your account, at least the reward cards.

You mean can we also buy those soulbound cards?

You can buy something similar to a loot chest that you are sure contains a reward card and not something else. There will be different kinds, with different chances to get a higher rarity card, GF, or multiples, kind of similar to what we have now for loot chests, but you would be able to buy the kind you want and you can afford, instead of the type of loot chest being selected for you based on previous/current season results.

In the future, they say they will add more options, including possibly the option to buy a specific card or something like that.

Oh, so the major difference is the ability of the players to choose.

Yes. And to save these new Glint tokens until they have enough to get what they want.

Hey there! Your InLeo Premium membership expired and I noticed you didn't renew it

I'm looking for ways to improve the Premium experience, do you mind giving me feedback and maybe a couple reasons why you decided not to renew it?

Hey Eric! I'd like to hear the plans for the bLEO-bHIVE pool in the future, knowing CubDefi and PolyCub will likely be slowly moving toward sunsetting...

Of course! I've written about it too. I asked because Premium funds have been used to build up permanent liquidity for this LP. And I wanted to know what the future holds for that permanent liquidity or the future Premium payments. Maybe Khal can talk about it in a future AMA.

I stopped playing Ranked (directly) when it became more of a chore for me instead of being fun.

🤣 I share the same feeling, particularly in the case of @kopiko-blanca's account.

Yeah, I don't have the issues of a small account and still didn't like that I was kind of forced to play daily, sometimes with long streaks of losses, which were quite frustrating.

In my case, it seems like a waste of time. It seems impossible to complete a DF that requires 50k plus points. I think I will be fortunate if I could finish this season even with 5 chests.

DF will be removed. Associated SPS rewards will be moved to the regular pool that pays SPS rewards on victory. That may increase SPS rewards for you.

And since you couldn't complete a DF before, without it, you would just play for victory and earn SPS rewards and Glint. And save Glint until you can get something useful from the shop.

Then, that's a great change. It made my life as a player easier.

Yes, I think it will be an improvement for players. We'll see if that will be positive or not from an investment standpoint. But normally, a happier player base will improve the investment side too, even if many things become soulbound in Splinterlands.

As long as they have battle utility, I have no problem with soulbound cards.

Nice to hear about Glint
I’d be glad to see how it works☺️

Yeah, we'll all have full details after its launch on April 2nd.

Finally the game is really spreading faster and gaining ground massively
