Hello ladies and gentlemen!
So this is actually the first (of many, I hope) challenge I’ll be a part of.
So the theme is Lava Spider. Not a really great rank1 monster in my opinion, but I use it every now and then.
Sooo on to the game, shall we?
As the match pops and I’m presented with the rulesets and I see the Reverse Speed and Enrage and 44 mana cap – one thing pops to mind – Fire splinter! Atleast for rank1 cards, which I use as I am a new player.
The Rank1 deck that I have has lots of 1- 2 speed monsters which make it really good for reverse speed. So my strategy was this – pick the slowest, highest melee dmg and hp mobs -> win. So of course leading the charge is Sand worm, accompanied by Tenyi Striker and a Kobold Miner bring the main damage for the back line ambush, Living Lava is tanking the whole thing, while Radiated Brute brings some nice 3 dmg and a 6hp off-tanking. The main attraction – Lava Spider was intended to be a back-line protector. Normally I would go for Serpentine spy and a 1 hp protector (Spark Pixies or Ooze), but seeing the high mana cap and the reverse speed i thought that the Pixies aren’t a good option as it would attract both snipe and opportunity and with the reverse speed it would die instantly without even hitting, and ooze would waste another spot and debuff me instead of my opponent because of the reverse speed rule. So I decide to put our Star of the week to soak up 1-2 sneak attacks – Lava Spider.
On to the battle!
ROUND 1
Okay, I have to say I was kind of scared at first seeing all those high rank cards and summoner facing me, but I said to myself – lets see.. Watching the opponent line-up before starting was abit soothing, just because I saw the main dmg were high speed, and also introducing a slow for my team and I saw a glimmer of hope. The intended purpose of Lava Spider was blown to pieces, but a new one was born – keep the Ancient Lich from gaining a thousand hp! :D
Leading the first two strikes were the Sand worm and the Kobold, who quickly kill off the Boogeyman.
ROUND 2
Starting round two I have a tingling feeling in my stomach knowing that Sand Worm will smack Dhampir Stalker – which is just what happens! Sadly Bone Golem hits first and my main tank goes down. Tenyi Striker and Kobold smack the Octospider a bit and Lava Spider keeps the Ancient Lich in check, but I also lose my off-tank and the Kobold Miner leads the charge in the next round.
ROUND 3
Now things are looking better, knowing the Octospider is gone in the beginning and the Ancient Lich will get a un-demoralized smack from tenyi striker and a tickle from a Lava Spider.
ROUND 4
Beginning round 4 I am still on the edge fearing Harklaw with his Shield ability and hoping Tenyi Striker will kill the lich before he hit my precious worm. With a bit of luck this is exactly what happens and we are off to Round 5.
ROUND 5
With the enrage and 9 dmg on Sand Worm I am now as calm as I can be, knowing that I got this one in the bag. Smacks are exchanged and we are facing the final round.
Now the win is just one hit away, aand there it goes.
So despite the fact that my intended strategy failed, a new one was born and things turned out quite good.
Thinking about this battle now and knowing the teams I cant help but think that if my opponent hadn’t done those 2 mistakes – harklaw in second position, instead of the back, and the high speed monsters instead of low speed I would’ve never won against so much higher rank cards.
Any tips you have for me on what I could’ve done better would be appreciated!
Thanks for reading and see you next week!
