Every card has a purpose. I remember picking up a specific card a while ago now and thinking how useless it was. I could not have been more wrong. In this battle I apply my improved understanding of combining the abilities and rulesets to find success.
I also learn a great opposing combination which I was rather concerned about.
The Ruleset
With 47 mana we have a great range of cards we can play and with only water missing there is plenty of opportunity to cause some damage. Equaliser is the key part here for me which means I want to look at a melee Gladius card and with that in mind I think Earth will be my best chances of a win.

All units have the amplify ability which increases Return Fire, Thorns and Retaliate amongst others.
Magic monsters units cannot be summoned.
All units health will match the highest summoned unit's health on either team.
My Lineup
Lobb Lowland
With Lobb Lowland, I have a fourth level rares available which is such a key level to have. Reducing the opposing speed is a good thing to have especially as magic is not available so hit chances will be calculated via speed so this will be useful. But let's be honest the main reason for getting is the Gladius use here.
Dumacke Orc
With a single health point, Dumacke Orc stands to become a powerhouse. With no magical units in play, the opponent will need to work through Shield which will reduce damage. Retaliate is an excellent and underrated ability in my opinion and we can use it to our advantage with amplify doing some extra work for us here.
Xenith Monk
At second level we gain the advantage of a self heal which keeps this rather resilient unit alive. With 4 speed this unit usually ends up going near the front which is great for ensuring enough health is in place to absorb the next attacking blow from the opponent.
Satha Toledo
Tank Heal is a key ability for my lineup and I hope that Satha Toledo is able to deliver some damage as well. The main role here though is a supportive one.
Katrelba Gobson
This is the main reason for selecting much of the lineup. With Double Strike and typically low health, this monster is particularly deadly once it gets bloodlust activated. Two base damage turns to four per turn and with three speed it usually hits the target. Thorns will be a real concern here especially with Amplify in play.
Ava The Undaunted
Shatter is a fantastic ability and one I love to use. If the opponent uses Bera Dallin as they have when they have recently played life then we may be able to take out their dangerous Armoured Strike ability which causes significant damage at times.
Supply Runner
Swiftness is a huge ability and I hope to utilise as much speed as possible on my side. In the rear position, two damage and four speed mean this will be a good damage option from deep.
Opposition Line up
General Sloan
Fourth level is the same as my summoner so abilities should be fairly even. A boost to ranged damage is something I should keep an eye on too.
Silverblade Fighter
Void armour is a good move typically but with no magic available, it is not the main play here. Flank is an excellent choice particularly if the opponent plays a unit with Armoured Strike then serious damage could be incoming.
Bera Dallin
Here is the card I was worried about seeing. The good news is I have brought shatter so the worst case could be one round of heavy armour strike damage. The Taunt will help my case but this is a strong card to play. With 12 health this is likely to set the equaliser limit for the battle.
Vulguine
An interesting choice as Scavenger will increase health over an above equaliser. Otherwise, not the card I would select here but much of the available mana has been utilised by the other cards around it.
Prismologist
Blast damage is the choice here. Three base damage boosted to four will splash and hurt my lineup if I am not careful. Hopefully this card can be removed early in the battle in order to succeed.
Pelacor Arbalest
Combined with General Sloan this is a big damage card, similar to Katrelba Gobson in my lineup. An excellent choice overall. Three damage with the extra ranged damage boost.
Luceheim Demon
Three base damage with a boost to four thanks to General Sloan. The good news is the slow speed of Luceheim Demon will mean accurate hits for Katrelba Gobson. The bad news is the taunt will need to be removed first. Strong damage with armour make this a good choice. The Snipe ability could be a real issue.
The Battle
Round 1
Retaliate is doing a great job of ensuring additional damage is being dealt around the opposing lineup. While Bloodlust is not yet engaging, Katrelba is putting the damage out there. Satha Toledo is also doing a great job keeping the Dumacke Orc alive, while being peppered with ranged damage.
Round 2
With Bera Dallin finally out of the way, the damage can now begin to take place against their backline. The Retaliate damage is still dishing out and soon enough the damage will be too much for Satha to heal.
Rounds 3 & 4
This battle demonstrates the value in the combination of Amplify and Retaliate together. Dumacke Orc looks like it was built for this battle.
Final Rounds
I am honestly impressed with Dumacke Orc making it all the way to the end of the battle, supported by a full complement of friendly units to support it.
Conclusions and thoughts
- Dumacke Orc was unreal in this lineup. Every card is built for specific situations and Amplify, Equaliser and Lost Magic is where Dumacke Orc is at their best.
- Shatter is invaluable in Lost Magic ruleset and is the best way to counter Armour Strike.
- The Silverblade Fighter combination with Bera Dallin is excellent. This only gets better at higher levels when increased armour is on offer.
- This is the seventh Power Up Post in a row as I look to grow my account and reinvest in Hive as a whole. Thank you for reading!
