My Misconceptions About Olivia

Hey hey hey!

I have been reiterating this and now I am enlightened. I found it hard to place Olivia Of The Brooks in my team because of few misconceptions. And those misconceptions caused me to not use Olivia at all in matches. I was wrong. So I figured sharing these misconceptions for others to learn from my mistakes. Let this be learnings for us and be the reason we will win with Olivia!

Misconceptions

#1 You need higher level Olivia to use it competitively

You don't need a level 2 to max level Olivia to use it competitively. It's true that Mimic appears only at Level 2 but with Opportunity ability alone, Olivia is a beast. Opportunity is a great ability and using it in appropriate rulesets would win you the game. As a matter of fact, Olivia is the only Opportunity unit with magic attack in Modern format. This means no armor can stop Olivia from targeting weak enemy units. In Melee Only ruleset, this is a huge advantage.

#2 Olivia gets another ability only when hit

I think I said this before, the only way for Olivia to get another ability is when it is hit. I was wrong. Really really wrong. Starting Round 2, it will get a random ability from the enemy regardless if it is hit or not. It's just that when it is hit by an enemy unit, Olivia has 25% chance of getting an ability from it. So it is possible to get an ability randomly and getting another one when damaged by other units.

Take this match for example.

image.png

Before the match starts, Olivia started wit hthe following abilities: Mimic, Divine Shield and Return Fire. Divine Shield came from the Ruleset. Return Fire comes from the summoner, Ilthain. Opportunity is gone because of the Fog Of War ruleset. It remained like this till Round 1./div>

image.png

Round 2, Olivia suddenly got a Force Shield. From whom you might ask? As Olivia wasn't hit by any monster, it will get a random ability from the enemy. In this case, it gets Force Field from the enemy Arkemis.

image.png

Round 3, Olivia gets Protect. Since Olivia only gets abilities from enemy units that are alive, I am guessing she got this from Nimbledook Explorer and not Arkemis. (If Olivia gets ablities from dead enemies, please let me know. )

image.png

Round 4, Olivia gets Void Armor. At this point, I wont be surprise if she gets it from the summoner - Grand Master Rathe. Well, Void Armor is granted to all enemy units so it becomes the ability of that unit. And once it is the ability of the unit, it can be mimicked. Fair enough.

image.png

And that was the last round. I won without Olivia taking direct hits. If this takes more rounds, I guess Olivia will get stronger with all of the abilities of the enemy. Such a monster!

#3 Immunity is useless when Olivia is poisoned

I pondered for a bit and thought, if Olivia is already poisoned, will it get cleansed when it gets Immunity? At first I thought, it wont. Thinking Immunity is useless. And yes I was so wrong. Abilities gained by Olivia are immediately available to her. So when it is poisoned and gets Immunity, it will be cleansed. And its not coming from me. It is stated in the Splinterlands Support.
