Close Range - Weekly Challenge!

Using Close Range ruleset to win a Diamond level battle!

We have three rulesets in effect: Weak Magic, Close Range and Aimless:

RULESET: Close Range

Description:

Units with ranged attacks are allowed to attack in the first position.

The Strategy

My strategy for the Close Range ruleset was centered around ranged attackers speed-boosted by the Conqueror Jacek summoner. The idea is to use most of this high mana battle for the high damage ranged attackers. Jacek is perfect summoner here because not only he gives all monsters two point speed boost, but he also equips ranged monster with a piercing ability that pierces enemy shields.

The idea is to hit them hard and fast.

In front I placed a low mana Antoid Platoon tank which has scavenger ability that keeps him alive longer. In the second position is a martyr monster that is intended to boost Lava Launcher stats when it is taken out and if lucky it can also boost our tank.

The next three monsters are all high speed and high damage ranged monsters with Countess Sinash being the clear star of the show.

The Summoner

Conqueror Jacek is a legendary fire summoner from the Chaos Legion Core set. This summoner is particularly strong in battles where mana is over forty just like what we have in this case as well as in Blast ruleset or close range ruleset. It gives ranged attackers piercing which really helps and in close range ranged attackers are great. It also gives all friendly monsters scattershot ability. While originally scattershot ability wasn't very appreciated but with release of rebellion it became really popular. So this fire summoners became one of my favorite summoners.

1st Slot - Meat Shield Monster

Antoid Platoon is another member of the Chaos Legion core set. This is a great low mana tank. It has scavenger ability which really helps to keep this four mana monster alive longer. It also comes with a shield ability which is great against ranged and melee attackers. This tank has base specs of three melee damage, two speed, three shield and five health before it is boosted by Jacek.

2nd Slot - Martyr Ranged Monster

Firecaller is a common rarity monster from the latest Soulbound reward card set. I don't have it maxed out for Diamond yet, but even at a level nine this card is one of my go to monsters. It has base specs of tree ranged attack, four speed and four health with martyr, fury and snare abilities and all of this for only five mana. The most important ability is his martyr ability so that when this card dies it can boost adjacent monster specs, in particular Lava Launcher.

3rd Slot - Major Damage Dealer and Stun Monster

Lava Launcher is an epic Chaos Legion Reward card set member. This is a great card to use in the close range ruleset, particularly with Jacek as he boosts the base speed of Lava Launcher by two more points and brings it to five speed before further speed boosts from Supply Runner and Countess Sinash make it a speed demon at seven speed! It has seven shield, six health and five ranged damage, this is a great card to use in the close range ruleset and with Jacek.

4th Slot - Fast Ranged Monster

Blood Maker is another Chaos Legion Reward card set member. This is a common rarity monster from the fire splinter. Blood Maker comes with a base speed of six, four ranged damage and five health for five mana. This card doesn't have close range ability so it really benefits from the close range ruleset. With summoner and other speed boosts this is a super fast card with 10 speed in this battle.

5th Slot - Ranged Speed and Health Boosting Monster

Supply Runner is a must have card from the Chaos Legion Core card set. The main utility of the supply runner is his Swiftness and Strengthen abilities. In a close range ruleset he also gains attack from the first position which can come really handy when the battle is really close. Supply runner also boasts really good base stats of five speed, three ranged damage and five health.

6th Slot - Ranged Speed Boosting Opportunity Monster

Countess Sinash is a legendary reward card. Her strength is in her abilities which she has in spades. She has opportunity ability, camouflage ability, swiftness ability, affliction and blast abilities. While her health is really low at four points for eight mana, her camouflage ability usually keeps her alive. She also has a base speed of four and four ranged damage.

THE BATTLE

Our opponent went with a blue team, they have a pretty good and fast lineup, lets see how our fast red team does against the classic water team lineup:

In the first round we were lucky enough to take out their healing and armor repair monster, their team took out our martyr monster, which is also good.

Second round was also pretty good for us. We took out their tank and opportunity monsters!

Round three was also pretty good as we took out their major ranged damage dealer:

And in round four we didn't let them fire off a single shot!
