Using Counterspell ruleset to win a battle!

We have two rulesets in effect: Counterspell and Amplify. Available splinters are fire, water, earth and dragon:

RULESET: Counterspell

image.png

Description:

All units receive the magic reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with magic receive damage back.

Damage returned is equal to the damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
Magic units with the reflection shield ability do not take damage from reflected magic attacks.
The amplify ability increases damage.

The Strategy

My strategy for the Counterspell ruleset is centered around Conqueror Jacek and ranged attacker lineup.

The idea here is to take advantage of the plus two speed offered by Jacek and his scattershot that ruins our opponent plans for controlling the flow of the battle as well as the piercing ability that let's ranged attackers to effectively bypass the shields.

Our ranged attacker lineup is composed of Molten Ash Golem, Supply Runner and Countess Sinash. Countess is our main damage dealer with her four ranged damage combines with splash ability that has a potential of damaging three monsters with one strike. Supply runner strengthens and speeds up our whole team and finally Molten Ash also comes with three ranged damage with an important demoralize ability and lots of health to serve as a secondary tank.

Our primary tank is Iidri Fyre which is also a taunt tank with lots of health shield and speed of four before the boosts from summoner and two other monsters.

I also placed Doctor Blight in this lineup despite the magic reflect from the Counterspell ruleset because his affliction and poison abilities are really powerful with a scattershot provided by Jacek.

The Summoner

Conqueror Jacek is a great value legendary summoner that is has become more meta in the recent times. This summoner is great for the Counterspell ruleset because it buffs the speed of all monsters on the friendly team by two points. It also comes with piercing and scattershot boosts for all monsters. I like using Jacek with ranged attackers particularly in this ruleset.

1st Slot - Taunt Tank

Iidri Fyre is a new soulbound fire splinter reward card of epic rarity. It comes with base specs of four speed, ten health and five shield with no attack. It also has important taunt, redemption and return fire abilities. Since I don't expect many magic attackers it is likely that we will have some ranged attackers and return fire will be really handy against those.

2nd Slot - Secondary Tank Demoralize Monster

Molten Ash Golem is a rare fire splinter Chaos Legion Core set member. It comes with three ranged damage, speed of two, ten health, demoralize, weaken and close range abilities. All of this for only six mana. He is great as a secondary tank due to his close range ability and high health.

3rd Slot - Support Monster

Scavo Chemist is a great little support monster that has cleanse, slow and headwinds abilities. In this ruleset I find his slow and headwinds abilities particularly useful

4th Slot - Magic Attacking Monster

Doctor Blight is a legendary rarity monster from the Chaos Legion Promo set. Despite the Counterspell ruleset in effect this magic monster brings a great value to the lineup due to his scavenger ability that let's him survive longer plus a combination of the Scattershot ability provided by Jacek with his poison ability let's Doctor Blight afflict with poison multiple monsters in the opponent lineup! He comes with two magic damage and four health. But his main value lies in his abilities: Affliction, Camouflage, Poison, Scavenger, Weaken. All of this for only four mana.

5th Slot - Ranged Damage Dealer Monster

Supply Runner is another key monster in our strategy, he speeds up and strengthens our whole team, plus his own base speed of five with three ranged damage is nothing to sneeze at!

6th Slot - Ranged Damage Dealer Monster

Countess Sinash is another ranged damage dealer, this legendary rarity rewards monster has an important swiftness, blast, opportunity and camouflaged abilities. With a ranged damage of four she is our main damage dealer.

THE BATTLE

Looks like we have a fire vs dragon/water battle. Good thing our opponent doesn't have a maxed out Grimbardun Smith and Oshuur Constantia
image.png

In the first round we had a few good hits but our opponent also scored a few good hits. In particular worrisome is that our Supply Runner health is down to only two from six.
image.png

Second round was way more successful for our team. We were able to take out their support monster before it was brought back by Oshuur Constantia and we took out their triage monster as well without loosing any of our monsters.
image.png

Round three was the decisive round for our team. We took down three of their monsters before loosing our Supply Runner

Round four was us slowly wearing down our opponent:

Round five offered an un-expected setback where we lost one of our primary damage dealers:

Round six was the final round where we took a win:
