Prelude
Greeting to all and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. Hope you've managed to have a good weekend and have been playing up your battles and earning more glint and rewards. Conclave Arcana had been in our midst for quite some time now, I believe many have started diving into the new cards and looking into how to integrate existing cards with the new ones. From the recent weekend where we saw many combos on show from the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, I think we should continue looking into the cards that matter from the Rebellion set and get them going before it is too late.

Rebellion Core Set Cards

Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's continue our review and look at 2 common cards from life splinter in today's review.

Skyspire Yak

The first life splinter common card that we will reviewing today will be Skyspire Yak. This card has armoured strike and it is important to look at the armour stats of this card to see how much value we can get out of this card. At max, this card only gets 2 armour and 2 melee attack. Personally, I am not too excited about this stats because most likely after 1-2 round, the armour will all get shredded and the additional strike is no longer there. The armour itself is not thick and to get more value out of this, boosters such as protect is needed to hit harder before being depleted. While this card gets heal in the higher levels, it will not be easy to displace other cards in a lineup unless there is bloodline advantage or due to other collection restriction ruleset such as even stevens or even little league. Otherwise, I would say, deployability for this card is a little low and probably can just act as a meat shield rather than what the armoured strike ability could bring. Repair could probably help give it more value.

Meriput Magician

The next card we will look at will be Meriput Magician. At 5 mana with a tank heal is not too bad though I would wish for more magic stats. A nice scaling of health as this card levels up. An interesting thing is that this card gains shield as it reaches level 5 which is a good thing as this will help prevent sneak attackers from keep crashing on it from the back. I like how a card that heals others can even self protect. Next will be at final level, it will gain strengthen which is equally great to buff up the whole lineup. A value card that is able to achieve this much with the only pity with it being 5 mana and missing out on little league. Otherwise, this card is checks so many boxes and definitely a card that should already be in your collection. Do grab minimally a copy as soon as possible.

Assessment
2 common cards that is being reviewed today with one being way stronger and more utility than the other. One contained a new ability released in Rebellion but somehow not being able to get enough out of that extra ability while the other is a tank healer that can be instrumental in most decks.

Rating wise, Skyspire Yak would be getting a rating of 2.2/5 from me because it does not really get full value from the armoured strike and only gain healing at higher levels. While the health stats is rather decent, I still think there are better options to choose from. For Meriput Magician, I really think this card deserved a good rating of 4.3/5 considering the shield it gains for its own self sustainability and strengthen that gives the whole lineup a health boost.

My recommendation will be to build up Meriput Magician and at least get it to level 5 for the shield. It will be a likely selection for most life splinter lineup unless driven by bloodline advantages. Do quickly get a copy at least for the tank heal if you can to start the building up process.

Wrap Up
Rebellion do really have good cards that are available and with Conclave Arcana in the midst of it all, synergies built amongst them will yield alot of advantage in the battlefield. The modern gameplay is evolving constantly with new ways to play considering the bloodline combinations. I like how things are moving through on this and certainly hope to be able to learn more about the cards and better my gameplay on the battlefield.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
