Community Engagement Challenge: Conclave Favourites - Portly Cannoneer, A Dwarf That Carries Inspiration

Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's topic is on about Conclave Favourites. Conclave Arcana have took centre stage since its release a few months back and I believe everyone will have the favourites developed as more the cards take root in your lineup as you develop combos and winning gameplays. For me, a dwarf from the Conclave Arcana set actually have been rather staple in my fire splinter lineup and I would like to share more with the community today.

Conclave Favourites

The card that is my favourite card so far for Conclave Arcana is Portly Cannoneer.

A brief look at how the card is show that this is a 4 mana dwarf card that gives inspire at level 1 and I own a copy of this card which at level 1 is already winning me loads of games.

This card has huge potential especially with it being very usable in little league and steadily increases its stat as it levels up, at the same time also gaining abilities such as return fire and fury. At max level, this card can even hit for 3 range damage and a really good deal for fire splinter.

With this card being a dwarf, it will be able to get the blood line ability boost from the dwarf archon and gains void which further enhance its survivability. A seemingly simple card yet able to anchor and give your lineup just what you need to open the match up with good melee strikes and help you gather some advantage early.

Reason I like this card so much is that, it has synergy across so many cards and team selections. It had also won me some seemingly impossible matchup, where opponent had a way stronger lineup than me, as well.

So let's get right in to the matchup sharing.

Selection Analysis
In this matchup, every single splinter can be used but for me, I've decided to go with fire splinter as it is rather optimal in this mana range.

To lead the lineup, I call upon Fithe Bladestone, Conclave Aracana fire and dwarf bloodline archon that give +2 armour to the lineup and at the same time give void to all dwarves. Because it is a ruleset with Maneuvers, I used Halfling Refugee to be the tank for my lineup which is good value with big stats at a good mana cost. Halfling Refugee is backed by Mana Warden which will give it shield to further perform as the lineup's tank and Mana Warden can hide behind it and strike opponent's frontline. The next card is Mad Kaboomist which can snipe for 2 magic attack yet being protected by armour and void which allows better survival for it. Next will be Gobalano Soldier that has ambush and will be able to hit before everyone else and subsequently sneak in attacks from the back. Following Gobalano will be my favourite Conclave Arcana card, Portly Cannoneer which will inspire the team and give Gobalano an additional boost in attack while it ambushes. Last but not the least, it will be Torch Vizier which is also a crazy good value melee attacker with opportunity and very fast speed.

Opponent apparently used the same archon as me and even had the same combo of Portly Cannoneer and Gobalano Solider within its lineup too. For the tank, opponent used a levelled up Mana Warden which has impede to slow down the attack it strikes. The next card is Ferrous Brewer, a dwarf and can attack the frontline using charge. And following is a high attack, high speed sneak attacker, Night Stalker which is a very strong card to go against. Following Night Stalker is the combo I mentioned earlier and last in the lineup is Forked-Tongue Sage which is able to snipe.

2 lineups with some similarities but also had its fair share of differences will square off, how will things go? Let head on to the round by round synopsis.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - Ambush landed as expected with Torch Vizier taking out the armour on opponent Mana Warden for an easy kill from Halfling Refugee. But the exposed state of Torch Vizier due to ambush also allowed Night Stalker to land the killer blow on the card.

Round 2 - We pushed hard and took down Ferrous Brewer with the heavy damage of my 2 frontline card thanks to the ruleset. Night Stalker looking crazy strong and staring at my frontline.

Round 3 - Significant changes took place this in this turn with Halfling Refugee striking first and taking out Night Stalker while Gobalano takes out opponent Forked-Tongue Sage and through the attacks, opponents Portly Cannoneer is also taken out and we are facing a single Gobalano Soldier.

Round 4 and 5 - I missed an attack in round 4 allowing Gobalano to survive one more round till it was finally taken out in round 5 with my lineup fully in tact. A nice win over a much stronger opponent with many levelled up cards.

Battle Summary
The inspire from Portly Cannoneer is important as it really give melee cards that additional juice and for it to be only at 4 mana and being a dwarf to be able to get protection from dwarf archon is certainly amazing. Simple card, easy to use and wins you battles, how could you not like this card? Thanks for allowing fire melee to come back into the fray and once again showcase its strength.
