Community Engagement Challenge: Custom Challenges

Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's challenge topic is to do a sharing on a new feature on Splinterlands that not many of us are actively exploring. This particular feature is the recently launched custom challenge.

Navigating to Custom Challenge

To start doing some custom challenge, you can find it right below your user id be it you are playing Splinterlands on your mobile or pc. In today’s sharing, due to a lack of PC access while at my workplace, I will be sharing from mobile phone interface, pardon me if the layout looks a little abnormal.

Click on the “challenge” to start a new challenge. And you will see this challenge interface appearing:

Here’s a breakdown of what you can input and customized when you get into the challenge interface.

Opponent:

Manually input the player’s name, or use the new Challenge button (symbol of 2 swords) from their profile to initiate a challenge.

Allowed Cards:

All Cards: All playable cards (Modern and Wild).
Gold Cards Only: Exclusively gold cards.
Alpha Cards Only: Only Alpha cards.
Gladiator Cards: Includes +1 Gladiator card (with applicable rulesets).
Modern: Most recent 2 sets (current is Chaos Legion and Rebellion).
Ghost Cards: All cards available without ownership or rental.
Ghost Modern: All Modern cards available without ownership or rental.

Summoner Level Caps:

Control the level of cards based on summoner level.

Mana Cap:

Choose a mana cap between 12 and 99.

Rulesets:

Add up to six rulesets to customize the gameplay. 6 ruleset at one go is really crazy.

Elements:

Determines which Splinter colour will be available in the challenge.

Things to take note

Challenge Cost
Unless you have 50k SPS staked or own a Runi, each challenge will cost you 10 DEC. Having 50k SPS staked or owning a Runi will defray to cost of challenge and you can do it for free.

Should a challenge fail to happen, the cost to initiate the challenge will be refunded back to you.

Repeat Challenge

Similar to how we play our normal matches, we can also look at the replay for challenges. However, there is a ‘repeat challenge’ button beside the usual replay button which one can actually re-initiate a challenge after you reviewed what went good and what went wrong from the battle instead of having doing the setup all over again, which is a real thoughtful feature from the developers.

Who should be using this challenge feature? Why do we even want to play custom challenges?

To me, custom challenges is essentially like a custom arena that you control how you want it to be. Your rules your conditions. It is fully versatile and can allow you to find the correct combination needed for some rule sets etc.

Low Pressure Environment
A training ground to improve oneself especially when you know you still haven’t figure out what should be the best card to use in some rule sets and the available and splinter colour. Learn about weakness from what you’ve selected and find suitable replacement that can up your gameplay.

Strategy Development
With the ability to repeat conditions and to test out with known people, you can even probably define a new meta through this. Also, you will be able to experiment on new cards that you obtain or even try out these new cards before deciding if they will be a good addition to your collection.

Wrap Up
This feature that is released really resemble the times when I play those arcade fighting games like Street Fighter or King of Fighters and practice on training mode to get use to play certain moves, getting my timing right for combos and even trying out characters that I don’t often use before actually using them in battles with others. This is essentially what custom challenge is all about, a training ground and platform for you to test out new stuff with your friends or guild mates to better your gameplay before bringing them to real battles. Get yourself ready in your in-house dojo before you fight it out for real on actual battleground.
