Introduction
I have been compiling lists of Hivers in various countries using @hivesql. The profile location data is not very consistent, but I try to group people by area when there are a few. There may be some mistakes due to my lack of local knowledge. If I have listed you incorrectly then please let me know.
It actually does not take long to put these lists together, but finding all the people in a country takes more work. I will leave it to the national communities to do that and will make the source data available on Github. Anyone can edit that and use my scripts to produce posts like this. It just needs a little Python knowledge and I can assist to get you started.
I have no plans to run these lists often (apart from the monthly #Britlist), so it will be up to others to do so. Please tag me if you do and I will support the posts.
Other Countries
Currently there are lists like this for:
- Australia
- Ghana
- Germany
- India
- Indonesia
- Ireland (2022)
- Netherlands by @michelmake
- Nigeria
- Portugal
- Romania
- Scandinavia
- South Africa

Commentary
I was interested to see how active India is on Hive. I know there have been issues around use of cryptocurrency there, but I do not know the current status. This is the most populous country with around 900 million internet users. That is a massive potential audience, but what we have now is tiny. Even if we reached a similar density to Venezuela then it would be thousands of Hivers. It would be interesting to hear what people think of the chances of growth.
It is always good to see some recent joiners. I hope they have been made welcome.
I am sure this list is missing lots of people as my queries only look for a few terms in profile locations. I would expect that there are a fair few ex-pats who may want to be included. As with all these lists I would like the local community to take over the job, so let me know if you are interested in doing so.
The Nigeria list has already inspired a meetup, so I hope to see more of that happening.

It is sad to see that we are the largest populated country in the world, and is still the members are so low I did try to join a lot of people on the hive, but unfortunately, they are not active here anymore And I think they did not understand this thing properly. Or they do not have enough time to give Not sure about the reasons but I wasn't successful in onboarding people here I think I should have to work on the strategy, or I have to promote Hive on a higher level so that I can onboard more people.
Thanks for sharing the stats.
One of the biggest problems with many they don't want to spend time and the lack of patience. In the online world, it takes time to build our presence and nothing works overnight.
I understand that its not easy to learn hive in a day and it takes 3-6 months if a person is dedicated and this is why many users leave
Do they think 'influencers' get big overnight? You cannot expect rewards for no effort.
Absolutely but many people don't understand that it takes years of time to build presence in digital world. Patience and consistency with efforts are necessary.
I've been on here 8 years and I'm not making a living from it. I do okay, but I've made a lot of contacts through daily activity and attending events. It's fun for me.
It is vital to set the right expectations as Hive is not like other platforms. Getting people to stick around is hard, but we need to find ways to do it. It may not always be about rewards.

actually people see the tranding posts with two digit earnings and get excited and when they find some penny upvote on their posts they get upset.
I am not blaming anyone and they new comes also need to understand that they have to show their talent, writing skill or any other skill. Just writing anything without quality does not fetch anything.
Education as well as support to good content is very much necessity to onboard and maintain users.
Well you can't expect to join Youtube and get millions of views straight away. Earning on Hive takes time and effort. It does help if you know some people, but it offers potential for everyone. We do see a lot who put out lots of low quality posts and they cannot expect to earn from that. We need Hive to grow so that there is more of an audience as not everyone will be a great content creator, but consumers can earn on Hive too.
That exactly people need to understand. They have to spend time exploring and learning.
Except blogging play2earn also has good attraction.
indeed, I think the big reason is there is a 30% tax on crypto earnings (withdrawal) and 1 % TDS in every trade. This is not good at all. I hope the government will reconsider the reduce the tax in the upcoming budget. I will try to come up with something new thanks, we need more attention.
that is applicable on trading crypto.
But about exchanging cryoto for card and coupons that you can use online or at locat store.

from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!We love your support by voting @detlev.witness on HIVE .
not getting support may be the first reason and people wants to be millionaire over night and expect higher for blogging site like Hive, here they need to understand things take time, Roam is not built in a day.
Spend time, engage with others make friends... post quality is must.
I also end up with unsuccessful attempts.
Or may be we all need joint efforts and strategies.

That's a pathetic number from the most populous country unfortunately.
It is and we have to consider where we are failing. I am no expert in marketing, but we are not reaching people.
true that this is a pathetic number
Well, yes I am Indian, second time in a list like this you prepared earlier too. I am in Hive since inception(not movie for real) transitioned from Steem. And this has kept me permanently in this crypto space.
It's good to think as being part of community. I am only posting and don't find time for other things in Hive, but I got the bond right with the platform and I hope its long term and mutually benificially.
Personally, I benefited coz I got recognized for being things - like a good cat story teller, crypto writen, travel writer and also whined here on there on life.
It helped me focus on crypto, and Web3 and I am on Web3 vehicle.
I take it I will be around for ever here, if things go well, anyway.
I hope I too make valuable contributions to the growth of the platform.
I am glad so many Indians from so many regions from India are here on Hive.
Here crypto will thrive always inspite the regulations, we are tough people as long as crypto wont be banned. Ok
Good to hear you are in it for the long term. I really hope that Hive can grow in India and elsewhere. Have fun.
Actually, India's biggest exchange wazirx is hacked yesterday. I feel bad for Indians whose funds are stuff there. I don't step on CEXs so I am not personally affected but these sort of instances really put crypto people off.
Its hard for them.
I just read that there funds can't be transfered to international exchanges, it will stay in wazirx wallet.
So, that multi sign wallet got hacked somehow, provably North Koreon hackers are involved.
And user funds in that exchange is locked and is falling down, even if their value is high and gone up in actually in coingecko and all...
Na... I don't think Indias being in India in straight forward manner and engage in crypto... I am a true crypto enthusiast so, it's different, but for others na... its hard.
Regulations have to relax and people should be free to custody their funds outside, put into other exchanges, else its like caging us, that's what happened.
Glad I don't use CEXs...not a investor anyway... I only write and post articles and study crypto.
Wazix hack -
I don't keep anything in exchanges. They are big targets. Hive makes it ready to run your own wallet and earn from it.
I did not know that there are so many users inactive from India and you're right that many are not here in the list as they don't have india in their profile.
You are right that its important to set the right expectations at the hive.
I onboarded many users in the past and most of them wanted to make big rewards from day 1 which is not possible. Now I rarely onboard anyone if the person is not serious then its not adding any value to the hive.
I've said so many times that people cannot expect to earn big straight away, but everyone can earn something if they do not abuse the system.
Well I am new here from Odisha you can follow me🤝
that's nice information.. some user's locations are close to me.
You can add gurseerat also, which is account belongs to my kid.
Hello
Thank you for finding me on the list. I am from Kolkata. You are right about difficulty with crypto here. Imposed tax is 30%. Hoping for change in slab.
The tax rate is high because Government has no willing to deal in crypto but it's supreme court who is protecting crypto users. And may be this is the reason people are less interested to invest for now.
I tried to make a good content but no one supporting, many whale are from india not want to see us on hive. Downvote is more affected me that's why I'm not more active.
You need to build your audience and for that consistency and engagement is the key
I think that there are very few whales from India and I have not seen the downvoting.. are you sure they are from India?
The key to success is hard work and hard work is done over time. I had given a lot of time to Hive but still I did not get support. I am not blaming Huawei or any person for this, but I want to say as a feedback that any user, whether he is in Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China or any other country in the world, if he lives in the country If the people themselves will not support the users of their own country then who will? The most difficult time for a new user is when he is new to any platform. A new user is like a guest coming to our house. If we do not welcome him, he will not stay for long. So if we do not support new users in this way then we will not be able to create a better platform at all. I would like to thank my friend @steevc that he gave information about many Hive users of India due to which we came to know about our neighboring Hive users. This is a very good initiative taken by @steevc. My friend @alokkumar121, thank you also for giving your valuable suggestion by replying to my small comment, my friend.
Same issue I faced that's why I left.
I remember you conversed in the 3speak channel and later you deleted it because some evidence was shared against you and you did not respond. was it resolved?
Greetings @alokkumar121, @brijwhiz and @steevc to make this content and discuss very interesting topic here. This is a very good post and we have been mentioned here. Now here we can see who lives around us so that we can contact them anytime and learn something or even help in practical life. In this way the number of users on the Hive can increase.
To tell you the truth, not many users in India are aware about crypto currency or blockchain technology and very few people know that earning can also be done by sharing posts through hive , steem or Blockchain. Here people also know Facebook and WhatsApp as a medium to share feelings. It is true to say that hive or steem is a social media based application which also gives rewards to its users through upvotes, but in a developing country like India, it is being seen as a means of earning. There are some users in India who have been on the highway for many years, say 3-5 years. Now that he has become a pro user, he not only teaches new users but also invites them but says that he will have 60% share in whatever rewards you earn. What this means is that they become a partner in earning money throughout their life. That means, whatever engagement or fun we do on hive throughout our life, I will have to pay 60% of whatever reward we get from hive. This is wrong. It should not happen. That's why there are many users who did not get support earlier and had to give 60% of whatever reward they received to the person who invited them. The result was that he had left the hive.
I don't know what their issues were with you. If the whales drive people away then Hive is doomed.
Makes one think that downvotes should have some kind of reasoning input as a requirement to them.
If so then why shouldn't upvotes? All votes are about adjusting rewards and that can be downwards. This question has been asked many times, but I still don't see it as necessary and people could lie. If people think you are abusing the system then they ought to say why, but that is their choice. Downvotes are actually a tiny minority of votes here, but can be an issue if you get targeted. All part of the anarchy of Hive I'm afraid.
I have had thousands of downvotes myself, but most are insignificant.
Downvotes without that weight of reputation is absolutely fine, democratic even. The downvoting with weight, and downvoting en block is a concern for sure based on the comments I have read here. The knowledge that it can happen creates an unnecessary block for any one who want to contribute but is unsure. Not everyone will be lucky like me to get good mentors :)
Those with the power need to be careful as other will notice their actions. I do downvote some blatant abuse. When it's down to personal disagreements I tend not to get involved.

WoWsome 😍 I am on the list in Puducherry, the only one from Puducherry, great achievement 🥳
Pondicherry na... nice place... I felt very bad how it became on 2020, dirty and dogs around... but I love Pondicherry and Auroville... Auroville especially...
Happy to hear this from u
Thank you so much for mentioning my name ☺️ i am actually posting and making new friends here🫂
Hey Steve, thank you for mentioning me in your post through which I got to know that I have been inactive for about a year on this platform. I really wanted to try this hive blog thing. But after posting my first post, it was very sad and demotivating as no one saw my first post. It got zero likes, and comments. I waited for a few weeks but still had no interaction, at the end I thought why not write something else but didn't get the motivation to do that. I know on the internet you have to wait to get recognition, but some likes or something could have motivated me to write more blogs on this platform.
Maybe I will give it another try and will see, what happens next :)
How did you think you would get noticed? You did not follow anyone and have not made many comments. Hive will not promote your posts for you and nobody was likely to see them. I have made many thousands of comments and I made little to start with. If you expect to earn then you have to put in the work. That's just how it is, like in the 'real world'.
Of course you should make it fun too.
