Stacker of the Week Update

I’ve deliberated on this for a couple of weeks now and have decided to end my involvement with the Author of the Week initiative being run by the guys at LEO Finance. There are a couple of reasons for this decision but the main one is that there appears to be very little interest or engagement from the Silver Gold Stackers community itself, which it is supposed to be serving and representing. Last week we had our lowest poll count yet and my poll last week asking about whether I should even continue with Stacker of the Week received a fairly low level of interest.

I’m not one to flog a dead horse. For me it was never about the money because after beneficiaries got taken out of my posts I could earn more posting about my next door neighbours cat. It was always about promoting our communities content and getting some extra rewards for our authors here at SGS but if that is not considered something worth getting behind then there isn’t much point in me continuing.

That said, the Stacker of the Week thing was a success in a few ways. From the LEO perspective it has helped promote the new poll feature and get some people testing it before it went into production. From the SGS perspective it has earned a few extra rewards for some of our quality long-format authors, so it hasn’t been a total waste of time – It just hasn't worked out in the long run.

If anyone else wants to give it a run, feel free to drop me a DM on Discord and I’d be happy to advise. My first piece of advice would be that you need to have some community endorsement if you want to try and take it on to serve and represent SGS. I’d suggest having a good chat to @dfinney – our most active moderator who knows the community better than I do and can probably give you some good tips. If there are no other plans to go forward with this, however, I’ll make one final post this weekend to set up the beneficiaries for our Round 10 winner @silversaver888. The whale support from @leofinance, @ocd, @theycallmedan and @blocktrades has been really good and consistent every week so hopefully I can hit them up one more time.

Thanks to those people who did engage and support the initiative. Sorry it hasn’t worked out. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed, but that’s how it goes in life. You have to try things and sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. The trick is knowing when to walk away and for me that feels like now.

It's tough to run successful communities, and tough to create community initiatives with "stickiness" enough to keep them going. I've done community building and management in the past; I've run contests and challenges in those communities... and it's tough to keep it fresh and interesting and engaging, week after week.

Sad to see, but good on you for not continuing to flog the proverbial dead horse!

=^..^=

Stacker of the Week received a fairly low level of interest.

I was happy to participate and engage, I was the very first stacker of the week! I hope someone can pick up the mantel and keep it going, but I understand it's a big commitment. Even with a thriving community, it takes time to build up new habits of participation, sometimes a few months. But then there's slogging through those few months.

I unfortunately had issues on there even using the poll multiple times so gave up trying. You are much appreciated my friend! And all you do for the community doesn’t go unnoticed 👍
Thank you for all you do my friend!

Thank you for taking the helm. If I were not already too busy with Hive, Ladies of Hive, LeoFinance, work, and social commitments, I would help you. Too bad, because the support is there, and it is so good for the community.

Really appreciate you and I will consider maybe giving it a go see how the community feels I really wouldn't want it to die out

Please do it!

I'll hit up @dfinney on Discord

That was all we can ask, that you gave it a try. #SGS is still relatively small community, perhaps when we have a big growth spurt in the future it could be more worthwhile then. Otherwise, keep on Stacking.

Sorry to hear this, but I totally understand. Maybe when things pick back up with the markets we will see a bit more engagement. That seems to be the way it goes.

You received an upvote of 100% from Precious the Silver Mermaid!

Thank you for contributing more great content to the #SilverGoldStackers tag.
You have created a Precious Gem!

It's very difficult to work and then continue to run it the way you were working and the way you are today because people are not participating in it and it's human is very sad because he has worked hard on it and it is not easy to carry people together. The way we're seeing it is that the market has come down and people aren't getting as much as they want, so they're not working here now.

It’s hard to be consistent posting never mind trying to run something like this. Thanks for the try bro.👍

Hopefully someone takes over the torch, thanks for the great work fren

Great work dude! I hope someone else can take up the mantle and continue the work!

😏😎🤙 ahhhh, that's not so good news, but if its what u decided to do.. then it's for the best.. thanks for trying that..

Sometimes it becomes really confusing to which community we should post our content. The same content in two different community gets very different exposure even though both the community are suitable for that content to post in.

Surely, the trick is knowing when to let go.

I'm glad the few weeks that it ran there were benefits on the two sides, the Leo team got testers on the poll, and the authors at SGS got a chance to be rewarded... So, this was a win-win situation like you said.

I'm sorry you have to let it go.

Anything that has to do with the community is never an easy task
It take a lot of insult, perseverance and a lot more to run it successfully
