1st Piece of Silver in Circulation I've Seen in Over 15 Years!!

in Silver Gold Stackerslast month (edited)

I know I silver patina when I see one, and I know a sliver ping when I hear one... I am even extremely accurate at sensing the silver percentage based on the sound reverberation form it tapping a hard surface, or being flicked.

During my childhood people would spend silver change at face value. I used to listen for the change to cling in the cash registers when I was a kid in the late 80s and 90s, and ask to change out bills if I heard silver drop from a customer ahead of me. I also earned silver in the Boy Scouts as prizes during fundraiser competitions, and was gifted some during Easter egg hunts from relative at times.

One Easter at about 3 years old (1988), my Dad made me pay for my own Batman big wheel at Toys R' Us with the silver Kennedy's & large 40% Eisenhower's I got that year, not the best parenting moment haha... but then again I was also guilty of spending my grandparent's silver change to buy candy at 7-11... ignorance prior to education... THAT was when I learned THAT lesson!

Last week I was helping return a old timers pocket change collection, and in the bin of spit-backs laid this glimmer that stood out with obviousness. A beaute of a '64 American dime that pings like a dream. A nice tip for a job well done, & a new good luck charm. Providence filling abundance cups again.

WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU FOUND SLIVER IN CIRCULATION?!!

Nice to see you back @elamental , my last silver coin find was a 1967 Canada 10 cents 80% silver, and not the 50% silver variety since the 80% weights a little more than the 50%. It was found out of the Reject tray of a CoinStar coin counting machine.

Same here with the rejected coins! There was a good grip of them in my pile but that dime stood out hella hard. I would love to see some fractional Canadian silver too! That's def not something held in my arsenal currently. Thank you for the welcome back and story sharing Fam!!

Very cool I only landed one 50% silver quarter here in Canada !BBH

Any silver is good silver! Nice find!

Indeed especially for face value !BBH

WOW! Thank you for the outstanding engagement in the comments of this publication! It's been a while since I've had this many folks commenting on one of my post threads!! I really appreciate you all 🙏💚💚🙏

Living in Europe, I don't think I ever had one in my hands but I wanted to say hi and that I really enjoyed reading this post. If you haven't seen it yet, I invite you to the silver gold stackers engagement initiative I started in December.. this week is week 10 and if you are up for it, check it out and hopefully I see you in the comment section there. I give away 5 HSBI shares every week (sometimes more) amongst the comments.

Thanks for the invite! Seems like my story here would fit perfectly in the comments for that prompt. I will head over there and leave a comment shortly.
#blessthemethod

See you over there! There are a few more days left I think before this week closes so still time to have a shot at the shares..

Just sent mine in! Was soooo bummed when I accidently deleted the first version I wrote (it was sooo good), I hope you like edition #2!

Oh that really sucks when that happens, but let me tell you that I've had it tons of times. Back in the old days when there were no drafts yet, I've had long writings costing me hours (ugh) and then poof! gone.. I feel the pain.. it sucks!

And yet here I am still not writing in a document lol. Thankfully peakd has drafts now ;)

Thank you for your contribution, I read it and am about to head there now.. It was me who invited you though, I saw you tagged another sweet lady :)

See you on the other side !LUV

ooops! I fixed the tag there. My mistake!

No worries :)

I just found my first silver dime ever in some change that I recovered after taking the seat out of my '03 Accord, about 3 weeks ago.

I was happy to hear that you can hear the difference in silver coins. I haven't had experience with this in silver, but I've been trying to explain to people that this is how I find copper pennies so easily, and they all think I'm nuts!

Ha! It's funny you mention that copper penny thing, I hoard any penny 1982 or lower, and weigh every 1983 penny seeing if it's a mistake copper one (those are worth over $100k and still several in circulation somewhere... a very unknown hidden gem in American currency). Thanks for sharing!

Do you have any idea who would be willing to buy a penny like that? I'm not a collector, and I'm pretty sure I have at least 3 of those.

No need to weigh to check, just flick it. The zinc pennies have no 'ring' at all.

Some of those have sold on Ebay to collectors in the past. Those 1983 copper ones are hella rare though for sure. Never thought to try the ping trick with copper, good advise!

Congrats! 1964, the last green-wood dragon 🐉 year (prior to 2024), a very fortunate year… i, too, was beMOREd to have been born within! 💥

Noice! I am curious where "the last greenwood dragon" phrase comes from... do you have any back-lore with that one? First time that has hit my ears.
