Geleceğe dair fikirlerim ve sorularım var. Herhangi bir birey gibi... Bana yol göstereceğine inandığım bilgileri edinmeye ve özümsemeye çalışırım. En önemli bilgi çeşitlerinden biri olan deneyimleri ise sonsuz bir ansiklopedinin sayfaları gibi görürüm. İster bana ait olsun ister başkasının deneyimleri... Hiç kuşkusuz şimdiki kişiliğimin oluşmasında bireysel deneyimlerimin büyük katkısı oldu. Hayatımın ilk yıllarından beri anılarımda biriken deneyimler... Aynı şekilde geçmişten gelen ve bir başkasına ait güzel birikimleri de gelecek adına dağarcığıma eklemek isterim.

Evet, geleceğe ışık tutacak referanslara ihtiyacımız olur. Bu referansları geçmişte çok kolay bir şekilde bulabiliriz. Mesela tarihe mal olmuş bilgeler hiç şüphesiz deniz feneri gibi bize yol göstermeye çalışırlar. Onlardan geriye kalanlar bizler için birer hazinedir.

Sokrates, hepimizin şu veya bu şekilde haberdar olduğu bu hazinelerden biridir. Bilge’nin sürdürülebilir bir dünya düşüncesini paylaşmak istiyorum. Fanatik bir şekilde, bir yere ait olmayı reddetme düşüncesini paylaşmak istiyorum. Aidiyetin topyekûn dünyaya yöneltilmesi gerektiğini savunan bakış açısını paylaşmak istiyorum:

"Ben ne Atinalıyım ne de Yunanistanlıyım, ben dünya vatandaşıyım."

İçinde çok güzel anlamlar barındıran bir söz. Buradaki vizyon bir bölge, bir halk ya da bir ülke ile sınırlı değil, aksine bir ülküye yönelik. Bu deyiş bir gruba fayda sağlamak uğruna diğerine zarar vermemeyi ister. Bütüncül bir çıkar gözetimi sunar. Kendini toplumsal zekanın bir hücresi olarak görür.

Bu fikir sürdürülebilir bir dünya fikri ile çok güzel bağdaşıyor. Ne kadar şanslıyız ki böyle bir dünya fikrini çok uzaklarda aramaya gerek yok. Kendi kültürümüzün içinde de örneklerini görebiliriz. Mesela Nazım Hikmet "Davet" adlı şiirinde der ki:

”Yaşamak bir ağaç gibi tek ve hür ve bir orman gibi kardeşçesine“.

Farklı şartlar altında söylenmiş sözler olsalar da aynı istikameti işaret ettiklerinden şüphe etmiyorum.

Her iki söz de ilk izlenim olarak globalleşmenin bir türevini sunuyor gibi gözükebilir. Global olma, bilindiği gibi, büyüme birleşme anlamlarına da geliyor. Diğer yandan insanın aklına kötümser bir düşünce de getirmiyor değil. Örneğin toplumsal değerlerin önüne evrensel ilkeleri yerleştirmeye çalışıyor olması gibi. Toplumsal öncelikleri siliyor mu bu düşünce? Cevabım kesinlikle hayır. Silmek bir yana her toplumun kendi kimliğini koruması için diğerlerine saygı göstermeyi öğütlüyor. Tarihe dönüp baktığımız zaman, çeşitli toplumsal değerlerin karşı karşıya gelmesinden savaşlar ortaya çıkmış. Örnek vermek adına bile olsa hiç de istenecek bir durum değil.

İnsanoğlu kendini bir yere ait hissedebilir, çok doğal ve olması gereken bir zihin yapısıdır. Dünya üzerindeki en güzel varlıklardan olan çiçekler bile endemiktir. Bu, yerel olmanın en güzel ve organik anlamıdır. Bir şey, her yerde ve her zaman olmaz. Esas mesele, ortaya kendi köklerinden gelen farklılığı, çeşitliliği, zenginliği bir katkı olarak koymaktır. Yetilerini bir baskı unsuru olarak kullanmamaktır. Birbirimize güvenmektir. Birbirimizden korkmamaktır. Kendi çıkarı uğruna başkasına dert olmamaktır. Dünya vatandaşının kimlik kartı kendi kültürü ve kendi dilidir. Yaşamak budur işte.

I have ideas and questions about the future. Like any individual... I try to acquire and digest the information that I believe will guide me. One of the most important types of knowledge is experiences. I see them as the pages in an endless encyclopedia. Whether they are my own or someone else's... There is no doubt that my personal experiences have contributed to the foundation of my personality. Experiences that have accumulated in my memories since the early years of my life. In the same way, I would like to add the good experiences from the history, that may belong to someone else, to my repertoire for the benefit of my future.

Yes, we need references to shed light on the future. We can find these references easily in the past. The wisdom of history tries to show us the way, like a lighthouse. What is left of wise men is a treasure for us.

Socrates is one of these treasures that we are all aware of in one way or another. I want to share his idea of a sustainable world. I want to share his refusal of a fanatical devotion. I want to share his point of view that directs the commitment towards the world as a whole:

"I am neither Athenian nor Greek but a citizen of the world."

It is a saying that passes messages of great importance. The vision here is not limited to a region, a group or a country, but is rather an ideal. It asks not to benefit one group at the expense of another. It offers a holistic oversight of interests. It offers to be a particular cell of a greater social intelligence.

This idea fits very well with the idea of a sustainable world. Luckily for us, we don't need to look far. We can see examples of it in our own culture. For example, Nazım Hikmet says in his poem "Plea":

"To live! Like a tree alone and free
Like a forest in brotherhood".

Although these words were spoken under different circumstances, I do not have any doubt that they point in the same direction.

At first impression, both sayings may seem to offer a derivative of globalization. Globalization, as is well known, also means growth and merger. On the other hand, it may bring some pessimistic thoughts to one's mind. For example, the thought that it is trying to place universal principles before social values. Does this erase social priorities? My answer is "definitely not". Far from erasing them, it advises each society to respect others in order to preserve its own identity. If we look back in history, wars have arisen from the confrontation of various social values. As anyone would agree that this is not a desirable situation, even for the sake of an example.

Humans can feel that they belong to somewhere. Indeed this is a very natural and necessary state of mind. Even flowers, one of the most beautiful things on earth, are endemic. This is the most striking and organic meaning of being local. Things does not exist or happen everywhere and all the time. Things are special in its own environment. The main idea should be to offer the differences, diversity and richness coming from your own roots as a contribution. Not to use them as an element of pressure. The idea should be to trust each other. Not to be afraid of each other. Not to be a burden to others for the sake of one's own interests. The identity card of a citizen of the world is its own culture and its own language. This is what it means to live.
