My Aegean Tour - Part 6: Bodrum and Bodrum Castle, Muğla [ENG-TUR]

From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The sixth of those is Bodrum district and Bodrum Castle which is located in Muğla province.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan altıncısı Muğla ilinde bulunan Bodrum ilçesi ve Bodrum Kalesi’dir.

After our visit to Iasos Ancient City, we returned to Didim. We stayed in Didim for one more night and made plans for our journey towards the south. The first destination seen on the map was Bodrum. After having a good breakfast in the morning, we set off. We arrived in Bodrum center about two hours later, around noon.

Iasos Antik Kent ziyaretimizden sonra tekrar Didim’e dönmüştük. Bir gece daha Didim’de kalıp güneye doğru olacak yolculuğumuzun planını yaptık. Haritada görülen ilk destinasyon Bodrum’du. Sabah iyi bir kahvaltı yaptıktan sonra yola çıktık. Yaklaşık iki saat sonra öğlen gibi Bodrum merkeze varmıştık.

I came to Bodrum again after years. The thing I still don’t like most about Bodrum is that its entrance and streets are narrow, resulting in traffic. There has been no change in this situation even after years. Luckily, we were able to find a street to park the car. After parking the car, we started walking towards Bodrum bazaar. Bodrum bazaar is a typical summer market. You can find goods in many categories other than food and drink at the bazaar. I think there is no need to get into the subject of prices in Bodrum in this inflationary economy.

Yıllar sonra Bodrum’a tekrar gelmiştim. Bodrum’un en sevmediğim tarafı girişinin ve sokaklarının dar olması, bu nedenle trafiğin oluşmasıydı. Yıllar sonra bile bu durumla ilgili bir değişiklik yoktu. Neyse ki, arabayı park edecek bir sokak bulabilmiştik. Arabayı park ettikten sonra Bodrum çarşıya doğru yürümeye başladık. Bodrum çarşısı, tipik bir yazlık yeri çarşılarından. Çarşı’da yeme-içmenin dışında bir çok kategoride eşya bulabilirsiniz. Bu enflasyonist ortamda Bodrum’daki fiyatlar konusuna girmeye gerek yok sanırım.

After about 15-20 minutes of walking, we arrived at Bodrum Marina. The first thing that catches your eye are the yachts in Bodrum Marina. In my opinion, these yachts create visual pollution. For those who don't know, Bodrum Castle is located right next to the marina and you can enter it with a museum card. Neither of us had ever been to Bodrum Castle before. While we were in Bodrum, we also went inside the castle. We spent about an hour at Bodrum Castle, took photos and rested a bit.

Yaklaşık 15-20 dakika yürüyüşten sonra Bodrum Marina’ya varmıştık. Bodrum Marina’daki yatlar ilk olarak göze çarpıyor. Bu yatların bana göre görüntü kirliliği yaratıyor. Bilmeyenler için, Bodrum Kalesi hemen marinanın yanında bulunuyor ve müze kart ile giriş yapılabiliyor. Ikimiz de daha önceden Bodrum Kalesi’ne girmemiştik. Bodrum’a kadar gelmişken kalenin de içine girdik. Bodrum Kalesi’nde yaklaşık bir saat zaman geçirip fotoğraf çektik, biraz da dinlenmiş olduk.

Our plan was to stay in Bodrum for one night and see other districts close to Bodrum; however, since this would exceed the total time we spared for the holiday, we gave up on this part of the plan. Perhaps, we will see those places when we have much more free time in the future. After eating and drinking something in Bodrum, we set out for the next destination in the evening.

Planımızda Bodrum’da bir gece kalıp Bodrum’a yakın diğer ilçeleri görmek vardı; fakat, bu durum tatile ayırdığımız toplam süreyi aşacağından planının bu kısmından vazgeçtik. Belki daha geniş bir zamanda oraları da görürüz. Bodrum’da birşey yiyip içtikten sonra akşama doğru bir sonraki destinasyon için yola çıktık.
