Reviving Birds that Smash Into Our Windows

Our living room is glassed in, and often birds will mistake it for a space where they can fly through! If we can get to them before the cats do, we try to help them get their wits and fly away. Sometimes it takes a few minutes of jostling them back and forth before they take flight. Here are some photos of some that we have recently rescued!

This pair was pretty surprising! We've never had to hit at the same time! These two did it on two different parts of the house at the same time. That's impressive! One hit the pavilion glass and the other hit the living room glass! I had them stay awake which is the most important thing! As I was jostling them, I brought them inside for a second and they decided that was the time they wanted to start flying. One flew right into a huge spider web up by the ceiling. I had to climb onto the counter to rescue the bird and then pull the web off. The bird was not a fan and kept squawking at me before they both flew off. Success!!

This little bird was rescued by my daughter. We have a little nest sitting outside of our door and she thought it would be funny to put the bird in it. It looked so cute until it flew away! Another successful rescue case!

Thig guy had some serious eyebrows. I just really loved his coloring. He was ready to fly off almost as soon as he crashed, so we didn't get to see too much of him!

I am always glad when we can rescue the birds that hit the windows. We try to always get a photo of them, but we never really figure out what kind of birds they are!

"...we never really figure out what kind of birds they are!"

O no! This is clearly something that happens from time to time, and I have found there is no better teacher than a beautiful animal in hand for a child that wants to learn. As a homeschool teacher, you should assure me you'll find out what kinds of birds you're saving so your children can learn about them.

Thanks!

It doesn't happen over here, but our cat does manage to capture birds from time to time. Fortunately she doesn't kill them, but brings inside until we notice, then she releases them inside the house and it's chaos. I managed to rescue all of them though. Poor little fellas.

cool post. we had birds flying into our window so we put up things on them like suncatchers and stickers. they help.
