Preparing a "Pan"

Hello Community,
I am preparing an excursion to Pan de Guajaibon, the highest elevation in western Cuba (699 meters above sea level).

the "Pan" can be seen on the right side of the image. Image is my own

Soon I will tell you how it developed but this time I will tell you how has been the preparation process.
Our "way of doing" comes from the experience of years of the Cuban Hiking Movement as a way to educate in a form of healthy recreation that is not expensive. In addition to educate in the care of the environment.
As part of the organization process we coordinate transportation because the base of the mountain is located in a remote area and the group that goes will be around 50 people.
Among the things we do for each excursion is to make up the food module. This is designed to be of common consumption so that the weight that is carried in the backpacks is distributed and that all the participants contribute a little bit to the common meal.
Why a common meal?
Well, as part of the philosophy of this group we advocate equality and that all participants go evenly beyond the purchasing power.
Based on the principle "nothing is too much and everything is enough" both for the meal and for the distribution of tasks and responsibilities.
As we try to educate, especially the beginners in this world, we always meet before leaving for the excursion to discuss the module and other issues. Because people in their day to day life are not used to the mechanisms of equitable distribution of tasks and responsibilities. Therefore we give ourselves to the task of explaining to achieve the understanding that almost always ends up consolidating when they observe that really the theory is put into practice as it was explained to them.
Lunch on the first day is brought ready from home and individually.
Common module for 2 days:

  • 1 glass of rice per person
  • 1 glass of sugar for every 4 people
  • 1 liter package of instant soft drink per person
  • 1 medium package of crackers per 4 persons
  • 1 bar of ground peanuts per person
  • 1 package of Hot Dogs or can of meat per 4 persons
  • 1 medium box of tomato puree per 4 people
  • ¼ liter of oil per person
  • Spices
  • Small packet of salt per 4 people

We also held the meeting to clarify the details more related to the physical preparation aspects for the excursion. We also had the meeting to clarify the details related to the physical preparation for the excursion, such as distances to be covered, altitude of the mountain, characteristics of the terrain, type of clothing to be used.
Well, I will tell you how we did in this adventure and I will share pictures of this beautiful place in Cuba.
