We woke up at Tomas' house, after a good night's rest, in the middle of that wonderful natural landscape of the Canyon. We were waking up to the sounds of the farm animals.
Roosters, pigs, dogs and a small cat that purred as it surrounded my tent.
We were not against the clock, but when the group is so large you have to organize yourself. Many, like me on this occasion, just had to wait to eat it.
After breakfast and some of us enjoyed a freshly brewed coffee from our hosts, the starting signal was given.
We began the ascent to an elevation that could be seen from the house, now I do not remember if it has a name. Among cliffs, rocks, vegetation and with the company of some dogs that guided or escorted us we were going up.
A little before reaching our objective point there was a hill with little high vegetation, ideal to enjoy the scenery and take pictures.
And of course, to take a photo of the whole group.
After a short rest there we continued until we reached the desired place, the one we could see from Tomas' house.
The road ended abruptly in a ravine overlooking the Canyon and the view was breathtaking. One of the dogs that kept us company wanted to pretend to be an explorer and ended up crying for us to rescue him from a place at the bottom of the ravine where he was stuck. After executing the "high" risk rescue, we started our way back.
This time, just the way we had come. We stopped again on the hill where we took the photos, so we could all sit down and eat "lunch". A piece of peanut brittle that serves as energy to continue, even in the strongest adventures, I can attest to that. Of course, always divided equally, which is the way of our group.
Once we were back at the camp, some went to enjoy a good swim in the river, others began to enter food preparation MODE.
First we had to take out of the backpacks the modules that each one had brought, which were designed precisely to be joined together and with them to prepare the food together.
Some gathered firewood, others cleaned the pots, peeled garlic or onions and prepared the spices. One group of us had to prepare the rice, cooked over firewood, for the 88 hikers.
It seemed like a titanic task, not to do it, but to make it look good LOL.
To our delight the combination of fire, boiling water and some ingredients that we could add, we ended up making a yellow rice that looked like it was homemade. Meanwhile in the charcoal stove at Tomas' house the sauce and protein for our meal was being prepared.
Once the art of the cooks was finished, the only thing left to do was to shout "tiroteo", a call to which everyone quickly responded alertly, grabbed their food containers, cutlery, and lined up to get their portion.
The food was spectacular, and in sufficient quantities for everyone to fill their stomachs, even the most gluttonous.
It was then time to enjoy the rest of the night under the stars, sharing in groups all the possible topics of conversation, some group games, and so on. This went on until about midnight.
When we all began to take the horizontal position to fall into the hands of Morpheus. The next day we would really have to cross the Canyon and we had to rest.

And an awesome place too. ( so it is in Cuba? I had to check your previous post to find it out... :D) And when this hiking happened? The weather looks great!
We did it in September, so I had little time to sit down and write it, with students from the university where I teach.
