A new DAO is coming to Hive!

FreeBeings.io LLC is developing tools for the FreeBeings DAO, a new DAO for Hive. In this post, we share an update on the development of the software that Hive users will use to participate in the DAO. All FreeBeings DAO software will be open source and free for all to join and use.

Refer to our last post for an overview of all that we are working on and the estimated release dates.

DAO Dashboard

The DAO Dashboard frontend is a central place to view your profile and get access to the dApps available on the FreeBeings DAO. The frontend and backend are almost ready for release, we are doing final testing now and expect to release this week.

The current version is rudimentary, with more integration features planned as the rest of the DAO’s dApps are released, for example features like Reputation and Professional Profiles.

Below are screenshots of what to expect.

FreeSpace

Public discourse is at the heart of decentralized coordination around any idea. As the first product we make for the FreeBeings DAO, we are working on FreeSpace. We are actively working on this project and are still on track for a Q2 of 2023 release, as mentioned in our last post.

What is FreeSpace?

FreeSpace is a platform for public discourse around the DAO’s projects, with tools to help all participants brainstorm, share information and reach consensus on project related matters.

Who can use FreeSpace?

All Hive users are invited to join. FreeSpace can also be a good tool for DHF proposals, as project participants can discuss potential proposals, update stakeholders on the progress of funded proposals and build a reputation, all on the same platform.

What kind of projects can be put on FreeSpace?

All Hive projects are invited to join. Whether it is a software development project, marketing initiative or humanitarian/charity work.

Design Mockups

Below are pictures of some of the mockup designs we are working with. We consider these designs to be close to final, so we don’t expect to make radical changes to how the app will look.

What's Next?

  • final tests on the DAO Dashboard, polishing up and then release when ready
  • continue developing FreeSpace

Congrats on your work, I particularly like the clean look of your user interfaces.

Regarding your login process, using private keys should be banned! We have been making efforts to educate people not to use their private keys and there exist other easy-to-use authentication methods, either with a browser or on mobile, which allow authenticating in a secure way. I truly don't understand why application developers still propose using private keys!

Regarding the authentication process, why do it in two steps when it's possible to do it in one step?
I invite you to check how it is implemented, both on browser and on mobile, in a more simple and more effective way on Engage or peakd.

If you have any questions about this or if you need help, feel free to contact me

Thanks, our UI designer is doing a good job :)

The private key method is not the recommended one and we show the screen with the auth options first. The authentication process is one step, if you choose either Keychain or HiveAuth.

The private key option is optional, if for some reason you are not using the auth methods.

I'll talk with the designer to see what changes we can implement to encourage the auth options more and make the private key option less prominent, like making the button smaller or something.

I'll also take a look at Engage's implementation.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

The private key method is not the recommended one [...] is optional [...]

It simply should be removed! I see no reason to keep it when safer alternatives exist.
Any app asking for a private key is a NO-GO for me!

I have never integrated this option in any of my applications and nobody complains about it.
As a witness, security should be one of your main concerns. Educating users about it too.

The option will be removed.

Glad to hear it. Thank you for considering my feedback.

FWIW, I "second" the opinion and advice of @arcange. Good to see you have wisely decided to accept it.

Interesting project. Now following, due to the reblog of this post by @vimukthi.

All the best to you both, for a better tomorrow! 👍

Good luck with your project but is it possible you could explain what it is in non-dev and non-techie terms please!

A new DAO ? for example....

Not nitpicking here but to get people to adopt this amazing technology, we need to be talking to the lowest common denominator...

Again, best of luck and thanks for thinking about mobile. Design looks great :-)

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated :)

I will quote from @dan’s Fractally Whitepaper as it explains the concept well. You can download it here

DAO stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organization. The description “decentralized and autonomous” was originally coined by ƒractally’s founder, Daniel Larimer, in 2013, to describe the economics of Bitcoin. Larimer described Bitcoins as “shares” in a decentralized company which issued shares in exchange for hashpower.

A DAO is therefore consensus over information and can never be destroyed unless all copies of the information are destroyed. In the digital age, destroying all copies of anything is next to impossible.

A DAO has no assets that can be seized, no laws it is subject to. A DAO is nothing more than a shared idea and is therefore bulletproof.

The transparency and independence of information is what makes a DAO “autonomous”, but what makes it decentralized? A DAO is decentralized when it continues to function regardless of what any subgroup of people do.

With this explanation, you could consider Hive as a social media DAO and the FreeBeings DAO as a sub-DAO built on Hive to create a community of global participants using the blockchain and the apps built on it to organize and collaborate.

In short, it will be like a home to any Hive user who wants to contribute/participate in building, promoting, onboarding, marketing, etc for the Hive community. A good example is this initiative posted by @crimsonclad. A project for these types of initiatives can be created on FreeSpace for:

  • Posting updates on progress
  • Running polls to measure community opinion
  • Discuss future plans and collaborate in realtime, in Discussion Rooms

We all get the chance to participate with our own tools made for the blockchain, with our reputations, user identities and currency distribution handled by the blockchain.

Let me know if this helps. I can gather more material for you, so feel free to ask.

More details about this initiative will be posted going forward, to get the word out there. We have recently added someone to help with marketing on our team.

Thank you for such an in-depth reply. Much appreciated and I shall continue to read, learn and follow your progress :-)

Good stuff... looking forward to give it a try! No hivesigner login?

Thanks :) HiveSigner is on the roadmap, we're working on it. Hopefully it will be part of the initial release, otherwise we will add it in an update soon after.

great job, I like what I am seeing! The current website of freebeings as well as the screenshots shared here already look better than any other frontend we have on Hive. Really excited where this is going :) Did you develop an own messaging service for rooms? I heard there is an open source coming from blocktrades soon as well

@tipu curate

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it's a custom solution. I'm not sure if the one blocktrades is developing will work in the same way, however I will look into it.

Love the good news and how everything looks like! Let's take Hive to the moooon!

Thank you!

Congratulation @imwatsi for this project.

Hi guys! I have several projects, Tools and marketplaces, that we are developing, I would like to collaborate with you.
I'm in this 8 years I would like to continue to be inventor, create useful tools, and projects with you!
A great project, congratulations!
