Engaging with Open Source on Hive: A Call to Action

Hello, Hive Community! We're starting a new proposal soon and we're gonna push for more Open Source interaction this next year so this is an important educational post about Open Source and how our project operaties.

Our mission is to create and maintain OPEN SOURCE tools for our vibrant Hive ecosystem, funded by HIVE stakers through the Hive Development pool.

These projects range from a modern Hive blockchain explorer and an internal HIVE-HBD marketplace interface, to a customizable notification system and new Hive wallet, among other features. All of them are designed with the Hive community at heart and aim to bring new possibilities to life for everyone involved.

The Open Source Journey So Far

Unfortunately, open source projects in the blockchain landscape often fall into obscurity due to reasons like lack of maintenance, community interest, or the initial spark that started them. They sometimes need committed champions to keep them going.

Our goal with Peak Open Projects is to shift this pattern. We aim to not only sustain these projects, but also encourage active community participation. We're in this for the long run, and we believe that together, we can build something that Hive can be truly proud of.

Here's How You Can Get Involved:

Offer Suggestions and Report Bugs

We open up our project repositories on PEAK OPEN GITLAB once they become operational. This allows everyone to view the project's code, track our progress, and interact with us. You can suggest new features, report bugs, or share your thoughts on improving the user experience. Remember, you don't need to be a developer to contribute. Every bit of feedback helps!

Contribute Your Skills

If you're a developer, you can assist in improving the code, adding features, or even expanding a project's functionality to suit your needs. Perhaps you can offer a fresh perspective or innovative ideas that can benefit the project beyond just code. We heartily welcome developers to join us and help bring new features to life.

Get Paid for Your Contributions

Contributions to our open-source projects are eligible for funding from the Hive Development pool. If you help progress a project, we can reward your efforts. Our part-time developers started just like you, and their shared goal is to create fantastic blockchain products for Hive. It can help to let us know the kind of time you put in to help give us a basis for our donation to the cause.

Earn Long-Term

If a project captures your interest, and you find yourself consistently contributing, we can arrange for a recurring transfer of HBD as payment for your dedicated work. If you have an open-source project idea that Hive Community might be interested in, let's talk. Maybe, together with our Open Source team, we can bring your project to life.
