Southern California gardening / Re-blog lottery

in FreeCompliments6 months ago

Living in southern California has some nice perks. Nice weather for most of the year, beautiful beaches, and there's always a lot of entertainment pretty much year round. It's been a great place for my son to grow up and a lot of family friendly areas. There are some down sides such as high taxes, it's crowded, extremely high gas prices (you almost need to take out a second mortgage to fill your gas tank,) and when you are away from home working you never really know how well your hired yard care guys are doing their job.

The last year I have been working out of state a lot so I hired a local company to take care of the yard once a week. Mow the lawn and take care of the garden and basic yard upkeep. Apparently to the guys I hired that meant mowing the lawn and making sure things were watered. They didn't pull out the weeds or cut back tomato plants that were growing out of control and didn't spray the aphids infesting my tomato plants. So my garden was a bit of a disaster when I arrived home after my last out of state contract.

The Peppers
On the bright side my pepper plants were extremely happy and loaded with peppers ready to be picked. The weeds weren't too bad to take care of thank goodness!

The Tomatoes

My poor cherry tomato plant was infested by aphids as were all the tomato plants, fortunately spraying them with neem oil took care of that problem! Those black spotted leaves should be replaced by new healthy leaves over the next months. But the tomatoes are ripe and taste great!

My Italian Heirloom tomato plants were left uncontrolled and got so heavy they tipped over the cage they had been growing in. This one will take some more effort to fix, I'm going to have to cut back a lot of the vines on the heavy side and try to straighten the cage upright again. I'm saving this project for next weekend because some of the tomatoes on that heavy side are just about ripe, so I'll pick them then cut the plant back. You can also see the aphid damaged leaves that will be replaced by healthy ones soon enough now that it's been sprayed with neem oil!

Some bonus citrus

I also have a dwarf lemon tree, that had a nice surprise ready on the tree. A fresh lemon right out of the yard! Most were still green and not nearly ready to pick yet. The tree isn't too impressive right now since I cut it back last fall and grafted some limes and oranges onto the tree. It's still a work in progress and at the moment kind of an ugly duckling so I skipped the pictures. In a few years it should be producing three different types of citrus which should be really cool!

Today I decided to take a break from silver coins, and do something different a little different just for fun. Not too worry I still have some really cool stuff to share coming up in the next few weeks!

Thank you everyone for all of your support, the Hive community is the best. I'm actively trying to recruit people who might bring some interesting content and expand our horizons! If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions please feel free to leave them below. Thanks again!

That's so funny, I live in San Pedro in the LA Harbor area and I literally have the same plants growing in my back yard. I just made some candied jalapenos this afternoon because I have too many!

I've been pickling a bunch of jalapenos the last couple days. I have pounds and pounds of them! San Pedro is a nice place, I'm in Los Alamitos. I don't think I've tried candied jalapenos, must be good. What do they taste like?

How beautiful those tomato plants look! I know how hard it is for them to grow without pests haha, it's good that that type of oil has helped you!

Thank you! Tomatoes are pest prone unfortunately, around here it's mainly aphids which really don't like neem oil.

That’s too bad about the lawn care guys, you never know when you’re away from home how paid employees will work!😳
It looks like the peppers are going to have a bumper crop, that’s always a plus …….
Yum…..🤗

Hired help... you never really know! The peppers are awesome, especially the jalapenos!

Puts me in the mood for some chili, it’s that time of year!
Nothing like a little bit of spice from peppers !🤗

You have to put a garden of cacti and succulents. Equally beautiful and low maintenance.

Wow, they left your garden without much care, Wow, you will have a lot to do to spend your free time; delighted to win and continue participating successes =^^=

At least it wasn't too bad. The plants could have all been dead! Congratulations on your luck!

The garden turned out awesome, lots of peppers and tomatoes :)

I love peppers and tomatoes! I'm fortunate that it never really freezes here so I don't have to start over yearly. Every few years they need replacing usually.

Hello, for aphids, I spray neem oil with potassium soap. The vines look good sometimes it is good to leave some bad weeds on them because it maintains the soil moisture. I congratulate you on your garden!

Not a bad post but I will not vote for since you are essentially paying people for reblogs. That is inauthentic form of engagement.

People should not engage content because they are being paid. It should be because the content is ENGANGING. Let it stand on its merit. I would recommend that for you.

It definitely isn't my intent to try to buy votes. To be honest with you it's really not been doing much as of late so I was already considering discontinuing it. Thanks for the advice, I'll stop offering it. I appreciate your input!

Hey man this is just the opinion of one individual and not the entire community..

Your reblog lottery is unique and really cool.

However this opinion has definitely ignited some passions.

If he doesn't want to vote for it he doesn't have to vote for it however it's kind of KAREN for him to leave a really negative comment...

If you're not interested and you don't want to be a part of what's going on here it's completely voluntary and nobody's forcing anybody to do anything...

Why do you support quid pro quo curation? Get off your high horse, Kyle.

I can voice my reasoned opinion, and you can voluntarily be a contrarian dick if you so choose but you really have no point.

The post would be unique without the reblog gimmick because that is exactly what it is, a gimmick.

What an extremely toxic individual. I'll mute. Toodles.

Never answered my question and instead referred to name calling.

You see, I occassional reflect people's own bad energy back to them so I just gave you a taste of your own medicine. That's all.

You came in toxic and you got toxic back. See ya!

Here's a litmus test for you. Imagine any gimmicky thing you see on Hive and now imagine if EVERYBODY was doing that thing. That's why it takes some "Karen" saying something like I did which I did in a very civil fashion if you think about it (unlike your shade tossing self).

It would be annoying and make Hive shittier for people will be reblogging for rewards rather than the merit of the content. It should be intuitive but maybe you were stoned so will give you the benefit of the doubt.
